The establishment of the first maternity hospital in Poland was talked about in the city for a long time. Some attempts were made by other private health care institutions in Wroclaw, but they did not go beyond the planning stage.
The newly established hospital is mainly a place where women can give birth, but gynaeological, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and aesthetic gynaecology operations will also be performed there. In the first weeks of functioning, planned gynaecological operations and planned Cesarean sections will be performed in the hospital. Apart from that, consultations will be available to pregnant women who would like to give birth in Medfemina – as in the case of most private obstetric hospitals, the facility requires minimum one qualification consultation before childbirth. After the start-up period, the hospital will begin to receive natural childbirths. It is also fully prepared to receive foreigners.
Comfort, safety and special menu
The hospital has a comfortable and modernly furnished labour room adapted for family childbirths and two operating theatres, including the Cesarean section theatre. It contains a intensive post-operation supervision two-person room and a room for newborns requiring intensive post-labour care with state-of-the-art incubators and resuscitation equipment. A smart doctor and midwife notification system is also available in order to reduce the time of response in emergency situations. ‘We rely on top-quality equipment, which is usually available in institutions with the highest reference level, mainly in academic centres,’ stresses Agnieszka Konieczka, MD PhD, the director of the Medfemina Hospital. She adds that the hospital can also rely on an experienced staff.
11 beds for patients are provided in cosy single and double rooms with newborn care corners, electric adjustable bed, elegant bedrooms, multimedia displays and wi-fi access. A sophisticated menu (e.g. chicken with black rice, risotto with green vegetables, pudding from chia seeds) has been prepared by a nutritionist. During childbirth, it will be possible for women to assume any position they find comfortable and to use a ball, a sako bag, massage and a shower to soothe pain. Epidural anaesthesia will obviously be available, too.
Babies under control
‘Each baby's pulse will be under constant supervision of medical personnel. Every nurse and doctor station will be equipped with a complete online preview of CTG. All of this will help our staff to react when necessary and make an optimum decision on how to terminate pregnancy,’ says Magdalena Dryhusz, the head of the labour unit in Medfemina. Each newborn baby will be inoculated as required and will undergo screening tests, which will be the same as.
How much is it?
All medical procedures will be available against payment, and the hospital does not plan to apply for a contract with the National Health Fund. The childbirth price-list of the hospital includes three package services.
- The basic childbirth package costs 5,900 PLN and covers, among others, natural childbirth or Cesarean section childbirth and all related services (CTG, anaesthesia, medicines, midwife’s care, etc.), a stay in a double hospital room for two days from the time of childbirth, meals and a basic layette.
- The higher package costs 8,900 PLN and covers the same range of services, but with a stay in a single hospital room.
- The highest price package (15,900 PLN) covers, among others, a stay in a VIP or family room with one accompanying person, the presence of a dedicated doctor, doctor’s and midwife’s consultations after childbirth and intensive post-labour physiotherapy.
