The services provided by hair stylists and beauty parlours which prove most popular with cat and dog owners are mainly haircut and colouring. "I treat such a package to my Token from time to time," says Agata. "I tried to shear his fur once, but he was hurt and started to whine so I gave up.

Dog stylists confirm that the owners are often too faint of heart to do the treatment themselves. And they do not have professional utensils or cosmetics either. "Some of my scissors are similar to those you can find at traditional hairdresser’s studios, but I have to use a trimmer which is powerful enough to deal with animal coat," says Artur Pietrzak from Mon Ami.

Fur harnessed at last

Cat owners usually ask to simply shave their pets while dog owners prefer more conventional hairstyles. But Alicja Kubasik from Psi Salonik Yorka says that "you can style dog in a thousand different ways". Some people ask for a Mohawk style or colour treatment. "I have seventeen different colours, but only one client asks me to colour her dog's tail pink from time to time,"-says Wioletta Pietras from Dog-Art. "But pony tails, brains and hairpins are extremely popular. Once the job has been completed, each dog receives a ribbon and small shiny ear jets. Each dog is also treated with special dog perfume, such as this!" she adds while spraying my wrist. Nice and fresh indeed.

Large offer

Beauty parlours also offer grooming treatment and moisture treatment, nail clipping (with nail varnish sometimes!), trimming hairs from in between the paw tips, trimming service (pruning the dog with a special knife, very good for wire-haired breeds), ear treatment, private parts treatment and coat treatment. They will also take care of your pet's teeth and provide ultrasound plaque removal, teeth brush or teeth whitening. "The latter treatment is popular with those owners who take care of their own teeth," says Piotr Frelkiewicz from the Animal Health and Beauty Centre and Animal Surgery Vet Centrum.

Passionate about your pet

If the dog is big, it will take around 2.5 hours to wash and style its fur. Beauty parlours for pets, just like those for humans, go out of their way to make their clients stay as agreeable as possible. Especially as dogs do not really like such occasions. For this reason, some parlours have special places to roll around, offer relaxing music or pheromones. Beauty parlours sometimes offer a special taxi service for their customers. The taxi can bring your pet to treatment, e.g. from elderly owners who cannot bring their pet themselves, but it can also drop off your four-legged friend to expos or competitions.

Ready for a family photo

Grooming studios and beauty parlours are particularly busy before Christmas and Easter. Once you've had your pet trimmed or coiffed, you can have a photo session at one of Wroclaw dog schools. A veritable family souvenir with your four-legged friend.
