Concerts in Wroclaw in August [CALENDAR]

Data publikacji: Autor:

We are in the peak of the cucumber season, so it is hard to complain about an abundance of concert attractions. Nevertheless, we can recommend you a few music events in August that it would be a shame to miss. See what we have chosen for you.

World music

It so happened that August’s concert offer will satisfy mainly fans of world music and… rock and genuine metal. Let’s begin with the first ones.

Connoisseurs of world music will certainly be happy with this month’s offer of the Summer in Synagogue under White Stork. On every Sunday of August, an interesting concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. At first, Victoria Hanna from Israel – an artist who skilfully combines early and modern music – will perform on the 2nd of August; next, we will listen to Duo Wajlu from Germany (the 9th of August) – a duo consisting of Katharina Muther and Roswitha Dasch, playing Yiddish music on the accordion and the violin, Świnoga & Świnoga (the 16th of August) – a duo combining classical and folk music, Bente Kahan & Gjertrud’s Gypsy Orchestra (the 23rd of August) – an artist who is well-known and appreciated in Wroclaw and, finally, Emose Uhunmwangho – an artist known for her collaboration with the Capitol Theatre in a jazz, folk and pop repertoire (the 30th of August).

Rock and metal

For a start, rock fans can check a new concert venue in Wroclaw: Park na Wyspie (the former stadium of the Ślęza Wroclaw club). Fans of heavy music should not ignore the performance of a death core star from the USA: Suicide Silence (the 10th of August, Liverpool). This band suffered a serious crisis two years ago – its charismatic vocalist Mitch Lucker died in a motorcycle crash. Consequently, the musicians went on hiatus for a year, but now they’re recording and touring again. Those who like even heavier sounds will certainly not miss a concert of genuinely cult bands: Nile and Suffocation (the 30th of August, Alibi). The first of them will release their new album ‘What Should Not Be Unearthed’ shortly before the Wroclaw gig – it is said to be as excellent as the famous ‘Black Seeds Of Vengeance’.

One day before this concert, another event from the wROCK For Freedom cycle will take place. The depot at Grabiszyńska no longer exists (the Museum of Solidarity is under construction there), so Dżem and Perfect will play in the Centennial Hall.

City sounds and a foreign star

It is worth mentioning that a great foreign star – certainly more recognisable than dark American metal bands – will visit us in August. Of course, we mean Matisyahu – a reggae rapper and a beatboxer, who will promote his latest album ‘Akeda’ (the 27th of August, Eter). Apart from that, we recommend a few attractive (and free!) concerts on Plac Społeczny square under the Miejskie Granie [City Sounds] cycle. On the stage located in the underground passage from the side of Impart and the amusement park, Tomek Makowiecki (the 8th of August), Fair Weather Friends (the 15th of August), Organek (the 22nd of August) and The Dumplings (the 29th of August) will perform.
