This year’s Christmas decorations are different from last year’s ones.
‘Every three years, we try to propose completely new decorations to Wroclaw inhabitants and tourists who arrive in our city,’ says Ewa Mazur. ‘We are working on a special idea with a selected leitmotif. This means that new elements are added every time. This is possible because we have borrowed Christmas decorations instead of buying them for several years. We hold a tender for their lease and for the assembly and disassembly of these decorations. This also allows us to save money, because keeping these decorations in adequate conditions requires certain financial outlays, too.
There is no Christmas without a Christmas tree
Traditionally, the central and most important part of the city decoration is the Christmas tree in the Market Square – this year a new version will be presented. Although it will be an artificial tree, as in the last few years, its shape will no longer be conical and will be more similar to a real Christmas tree. Christmas trees are present also on Nowy Targ Square and the Nowe Żerniki housing estate.
There are also other festive decorations referring to Christmas and winter, e.g., stars and snowflakes in warm white, salmon, yellow and violet. They will shine, among others, at ul. Oławska, Kiełbasińska, Świdnicka and Ruska.
‘All illuminations are energy-saving,’ confirms Ewa Mazur. ‘For 13 years, we have used only the LED technology, which is not only cheaper, but also environment-friendly.
This year’s Christmas illuminations will also shine almost one month shorter. ‘Wroclaw inhabitants could usually enjoy them till 2nd February. This year, however, the disassembly of decorations will start on the first weekend after Epiphany around 11th January,’ says Ewa Mazur.
