Christmas Market 2015 is open! [PHOTO, VIDEO]

One of the most beautiful Christmas markets again appeared on Wroclaw's Market Square. The traditional wooden booths house many treats - original Christmas gifts, as well as gourmet delicacies from various corners of Poland and the world. Christmas Market will run from 20 November to 22 December.

This is the eighth edition of one of the most beautiful Christmas markets. Wroclaw Market has once again become the backdrop for a fairy tale scenery. First visitors were already doing their Christmas shopping today among the forest-fragrant Christmas trees, and in the aroma of mulled wine and chocolate gingerbread, roasted meats, hot chestnuts and other mouth-watering goodies. They were keen on various species of honey at 7-35 PLN (depending on the kind and volume), delicious Vilnius meats (e.g. kindziuk at 28 PLN/kg, smoked tenderloin at 39,90 PLN/kg) and bread, as well as the oscypek cheese from 3 to 35 PLN. Available are also Wedel products with winter and Christmas motifs, various roasted nuts, spices, and of course mulled wine - small cup at 5 PLN, and large at 10 PLN. First gingerbread hearts were also sold (5-15 PLN) as well as the magnificent gingerbread houses (50 PLN).

From 10 am, the moment the Christmas market opened, you could buy fantastic Christmas ornaments, scented candles, ceramics, stained glass, warm scarves (large 50 PLN), hats, gloves, slippers, warm sweaters and felt bags (large 150 PLN). But it is best to check yourself how appetizing, fragrant and colourful Wroclaw Market Square is, and keep popping in there regularly for the coming month.

This is what mayor Rafal Dutkiewicz encouraged visitors to do at the official opening of the market, which was ceremonially announced with the music of a brass band on Friday afternoon, shortly after 5 pm.

Please note that in Wroclaw Christmas Market is not only an opportunity for great shopping, but also a place of many interesting events. Their list can be found in the programme of this year's event (see below and at go.wroclaw.pl). It seems that kids will also have a lot of fun - especially since the fairytale forest looks great with its mini-carousels - a choo-choo or toy cars. Several toddler amateurs of such rides had their chance to enjoy it today.

The Market Square has already got the Christmas tree that will be illuminated on St. Nicolas Day. This year, the twenty-metre cone will stand for a shorter time than usual. The Christmas tree will disappear just before the opening of the ECC 2016, which is planned for mid-January.

This year's Christmas tree is the same height as last year, approx. 20 meters. Festive illuminations will glow in the Market Square this Friday at the opening of the Christmas market. Other places will get a Christmas setting along with the Christmas tree on St. Nicholas Day.

It is worth mentioning that Wroclaw Christmas market was included on the list of the 12 most beautiful European Christmas markets, published last year by the The Huffington Post. Wroclaw fair was counted among such splendid and historical fairs as the one organized for 440 years now in Strasbourg, France, or the famous fairs in Frankfurt or Nuremberg. Perhaps the Wroclaw market is not equally well known yet, but it is no less beautiful and romantic than those most famous in Europe.
