A Wrocław game makes worldwide success

After but a few days after the première, the latest game by Techland publishing house is winning the US market. Although "Dying Light" can be purchased only since the end of January, more than 1.2 million people have played it already.

"We are very happy about this success. The US is the largest market in the world for consoles and PC's. After more than two years of work, to see your game as the best- selling game in the United States and as the first Polish game that did it - it's really something! Such a success motivates us even more to work on other projects," points out Tomasz Gawlikowski from Techland.

In fact, Wrocław-based Techland has plenty of projects in their portfolio. At present, they are preparing the hard mode for "Dying Light", which will be available for online download. Also, the next game's première, "Hellraid", is coming up soon. Techland has been operating since 1991, and has so far been known for games such as "Call of Juarez", or "Dead Island". In 2000, the company began selling in the international market. The company currently employs 260 people and runs their offices in Wrocław, Warsaw, Ostrow Wielkopolski and Vancouver.

The game's plot

Dying Light is an action game with elements of survival horror, set in a dangerous, open world. During the day, the player traverses vast urban scenes taken by victims of a mysterious infection, searching for stocks and creating new weapons to fight the growing hordes of the aggressive infected. At night the hunter becomes the hunted when the infected grow in strength and agility.

"More and more often players are fed up with hoary old chestnuts, remastered versions and even more sequels. They need something new. And I think we succeeded in delivering it to them. The interchangeable day/night cycle, with a completely different game mechanics, and the parkour-style moving system are the two most important features of the game that can be called groundbreaking," says Tomasz Gawlikowski.

As a version developed for both PC and the next generation of consoles, the game is the largest and most ambitious project in Techland's history, according to the publisher.
