Rammstein are a German band set up in 1993. They were set up by the guitarist Richard Kruspe as he defected from the DDR, The name of the band is derived from the American Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The base was witness to a plane crash that Rammstein would later cover in one of their songs. The name of the band is spelled with double "m", and the mistake, as the members themselves admit, is down to their ignorance.
Rammstein combines heavy metal thunder with industrial sounds. Their first single Du riechst so gut ("You smell so good"), which was released on 17 August, wa later included in "Herzeleid" (issued in 1995). The same year, the band went on their first large tour to support Clawfinger. They visited Warsaw and Prague. Their popularity steadily rose in Germany, and they also stormed the UK with their MTV performance. Two of their songs were also included in a soundtrack to promote David Lynch's "Lost Highway".
"Rammstein's keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz is arriving in Wroclaw on 23 April to promote his autobiography "Der Tastenficker: An was ich mich so erinnern kann'", says Irek Grin, ECC Literature Curator. The meeting will be held as part of the UNESCO World Book Capital Wroclaw 2016 c at the Goethe-Institut Pop Up Pavillion in Plac Nowy Targ.
Rammstein have sold over 17 million records to date. Rammstein's songs deal with a number of topics, including love, sex, perversions and drugs. One of their videos raised a huge controversy as it contained explicit material that could be broadcast only after 10 pm or in a censored form. Their concerts are a guarantee of a great show full of special effects and fireworks, prepared and executed to the tiniest of details.
Established in 1994, Limp Bizkit come from the USA. Their music is a combination of rap nd heavy metal. Their most popular LPs include: "Three Dollar Bill, Y'All$", "Significant Other" and "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water".
The singer Fred Durst is known for his pro-Putin sympathies, which is why he has been denied access to Ukraine.
"We realise that Fred Dusrt's political views are far from the mainstream, but he does not promote these ideas on stage. It is all down to the audience how to react when he starts expressing his views. They may just as well boo him and he will have to take it on the chin", say the organisers.
Bullet For My Valentine are going to take the stage right before dusk. The Welsh quartet are going to present an awe-inspiring mixture of hard rock and metal core. The Capital of Rock will also showcase local bands such as OCN.
The bands are expected to perform as part of the Capital of Rock Festival at the Wroclaw Stadium to celebrate Wroclaw as the European Capital of Culture 2016. The show follows in the footsteps of the previously announced concerts by David Gilmour in Plac Wolności and by Iron Maiden and Anthrax at the Wroclaw Stadium.
"Wroclaw is yet to have a rock festival of its own. The Capital of Rock is designed to fit in with the rest of the ECC programme, but we are keen to transform Wroclaw into rock's permanent capital. We're beginning with a one-day festival, but we look forward to creating festivals that last longer than that", says Michał Wysocki from RockloudLive, the event's co-organiser.
