"Parents' Zone. Budimex for Children" is a nationwide social programme. Its primary aim is to create children and parents friendly areas in hospitals. The programme encourages parents to spend time with their children while in treatment, which significantly shortens recovery times. The programme is both conducted and financed by Budimex. The parents' zone, which was created at Wroclaw's Teaching Hospital is the tenth such area in Poland.
The Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition Clinic admits over 1900 little patients annually, add their mean treatment times are between 4 and 5 days. No time restrictions are imposed on parents who would like to visit their children, but longer visits require suitable accommodation. That's why the hospital was suitably refurbished to provide for the parents' needs. The new parents' zone is composed of a day room and dining room for children and a special bedroom for parents. All rooms are suitably fitted with convenient and ergonomic furniture, convertible beds for the parents and special educational games and toys for the children.
"I'm all the happier since it's our tenth and colourful area for children and their parents," adds Budimex's External Communications Office Director Krzysztof Kozioł. "I do hope that with our programme hospitals in Poland will be more parents friendly, which both shortens the treatment of their children and makes it less painful.
The colourful "Parents' Zone" in Wroclaw, which is both children and parents friendly, was completed by a group of volunteers such as committed architects from Group - Arch and in collaboration with Ceramika Paradyż and Forbo Flooring Poland. Similar zones have been created in Białystok, Lublin, Łódź, Katowice, Poznań, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Kraków and Sanok.
The zone is expected to handle over 17 thousand little patients and their carers annually.
