The Wroclaw Magnolia competition for authors of diploma theses is supported by the authorities of Wroclaw and co-ordinated by the Wroclaw Academic Centre. It distinguishes academic works that deal with topics concerning Wroclaw in the fields of architecture, urban planning, ecology and social affairs – in short, the problems and phenomena that affect the quality of life in the capital of Lower Silesia.
In the 17th edition of the Magnolia, the main award (10,000 PLN) went to Agnieszka Rogala, a graduate of the Wroclaw University of Technology, for the thesis “A conception of precipitation water management’ written under the direction of Professor Bartosz Kaźmierczak.

‘My work concerns the retention of precipitation water – it has recently been a very popular subject, particularly because of the storms that passed over Wroclaw in June, leaving many flooded streets and submerged buildings. I wanted to stress the importance of this issue and raise the awareness of modern technologies that might be used in designing new sewage disposal systems,’ said the laureate of the Wroclaw Magnolia in her statement for the website of the Wroclaw University of Technology.
Among the laureates of this year’s awards, four are graduates of the Wroclaw University of Technology, three distinctions went to graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts and one to graduates of the University of Wroclaw and the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. They received awards amounting from 2,500 PLN to 8,000 PLN.
