The slogan on the mural says: ‘Your indifference harms others. Notice violence. React!’ It was painted by Wojciech Kołacz.
‘The mural refers to the topic with its slogan on one hand and with its form and the presented content on the other hand. It is a figurative image that leaves much room for interpretation. We deliberately created it in the place that is well visible and many inhabitants will have an opportunity to see its message. Even before the mural was finished, people came up to me and asked what it presents and on what occasion it was being made,’ informed the author.
Wroclaw against violence
Several days of the campaign are just a part of activities that the city undertakes during the year to counteract family violence. In 2019, around 3 million PLN were set aside for this purpose.
These activities include psychological or therapeutic help (it was given to around 4,000 persons last year), the Wroclaw Helpline (700 advices), violence prevention courses conducted for schools, social workers, policemen, probation officers or psychologists (around 2.500 trained persons), family counselling, a correctional-educational program for violence perpetrators, or the running of the Crisis Intervention Centre at ul. Rydygiera and other units where victims can count on round-the-clock shelter and help.
In 2019, support was provided to 230 families, including 174 children. The City of Wroclaw runs also a correctional-educational program for violence perpetrators – 130 persons participated in such activities last year.
