  3. Where to dance salsa in Wroclaw? Check!

Even when attending regular salsotheques, you would have to party almost non stop.

Sunday, around midnight. It might seem that this is not a good time for partying. You could not be more wrong. The dance floors of neighboring 13 and GAFA Clubs are crowded. The party with Latin American rhythms is in full swing. The same happens in Lewitacja and GAFA on Tuesdays, in Czarny Kot on Wednesdays, in Sombrerro on Thursdays, in Antidotum and Casa de la Musica on Fridays and in Casa de la Musica on Saturdays.

Latino has many names

You can dance there not only classical salsa, but also its variation – new york style and timba, reggaeton or (often in a separate room) the so-called sensuals: bachata, kizomba and zouk. During parties, Rueda de Casino sometimes takes place, too. Pairs in a circle are performing the same figures synchronically. Upon the instructor’s call, they exchange partners. This is a game for dancers who have basic salsa skills, and there are most of them at salsotheques. "We attend a dance school, but that’s not enough for us", laugh Maja and Mariusz, participants of the event. "Apart from that, here you have music and people who movements you can watch".

No skills are required, you can learn

Salsotheques attract also those who do not have a basic knowledge of Latin American dances. They can improve their skills a little bit. Before or after events, animations are usually organised – these are shows of steps and dancing games led by instructors.

Some people attend salsotheques only to watch others. One of them is Filip, who explains that he does it in order to wind himself up for a dancing course. "I am beginning a course soon and in four weeks I will swish across the floor", he assures. One of organiser of salsotheques, suggests that it is a good way of making friends. "Salsa absorbs and integrates people. Many of them attend such parties regularly. Almost all of us know one another personally or by sight". Radosław Jarosik goes on to add that during nine years of his activity as a salsa instructor he managed to bring together around one hundred pairs.

You can dance to Latin American sounds in:

  • Tuesday - Lewitacja, GAFA
  • Wednesday - BauBar (from the 7th of May), Czarny Kot
  • Thursday - Sombrerro
  • Friday - Casa de la Musica, Antidotum
  • Saturday - Casa de la Musica
  • Sunday - GAFA, 13
