The Wrocławskie Inwestycje company acting on behalf of the city is preparing a tender for the design documentation for this investment. The winning office will have 18 months to complete the task.
Tram to Księże – the estate is being populated
Opolska Street is the gateway to the city. It is regularly used by residents of Oława and Siechnice who commute to Wrocław. In addition, Księże was discovered by developers and many housing estates have been built there. The Social Housing Association also invests here. On such a congested road, buses stand in traffic along with cars and are not an interesting option in choosing a mode of transport.
According to the assumptions, the capacity of the street will not change significantly after the reconstruction. On the other hand, the communication possibilities will change fundamentally. Residents will be able to reach the centre by tram or safely and conveniently by bicycle. People from neighbouring towns will be given the opportunity to leave their car at the new terminus, where there will be a P+R car park, and transfer to public transport.
Reconstruction of Opolska – what will change?
The roadway will be reconstructed over a length of approximately three kilometres. The track will be approximately two kilometres long, and a bus and tram terminus with a P+R car park will be located behind Brochowska Street. A second track will be added between Głubczycka and Księże Małe stops (trams currently run alternately on one track in this section). According to the magistrate's estimate, trams will be additionally available to 6,400 residents.
New cycle routes will not only be built at Opolska, but the infrastructure at Krakowska will also be designed so that there is a coherent comfortable route from the Wielkiej Wyspy avenue to the end of Opolska.
The Municipal Water and Sewage Company (MPWiK) will also contribute to the project by rebuilding the water and sewage infrastructure.
According to the tram programme, the track at Opolska Street is to be built by 2030.
