‘The holiday renovations have started!’ we reported on 9th July. After six weeks, and a few days to go before 1st September, it is time to present the investment report on Wroclaw's educational establishments.
Holiday renovations in schools and kindergartens
Summer modernisations in the education and care sector:
- 150 establishments,
- PLN 42 million.
Mayor of Wroclaw Jacek Sutryk: 'Education expenses account for a third of the municipal budget. We intend to spend around PLN 120 million on new playing fields as well as reconstructions of schools, refurbishments of classrooms, corridors or sanitary facilities this year.’
‘These include both small investments, such as replacement of radiator valves or installation of a drinking water station, and large ones, such as reconstruction and renovation of sanitary facilities. By investing in the modernisation of schools, we are creating a safe and modern learning environment, because we care about the future of young people in Wroclaw,’ emphasises the Mayor of Wroclaw.
This year's task list included
- the construction of a lift,
- the renovation of façades, stairs and floors,
- the replacement of windows, doors and the water supply system.
Dozens of schools have new radiator valves, which helps them reduce energy losses.
Jarosław Delewski, Director of the Department of Education of the Wroclaw City Office: 'Many schools and kindergartens are carrying out smaller but much-needed renovations on their own from the municipal budget. These include painting of classrooms, refurbishment of toilets, replacement of lighting and cameras, or modernisation of corridors and stairs. While pupils are resting and gathering strength for the new school year, we are making improvements so that they could return to beautiful refurbished facilities that are more modern, spacious and comfortable.’
Hot summer in urban investments
The Wroclaw City Office informs that renovations in dozens of schools had been completed by mid-August. A further few dozen facilities are awaiting the completion of the final works and technical acceptance.
In the complex of economic and general education schools at Drukarska Street, the toilets have been rebuilt and refurbished, and in the primary school at Kraińskiego Street, the replaced floor in the ground floor corridor is being sanded.
From as early as the end of July – earlier than planned – pupils at the Primary School No. 50 at Czeska Street can enjoy a modern, multifunctional playing field with a running track, lighting and a street workout area – an investment worth more than PLN 2.2 million.
Jolanta Wnęk, Director of the Municipal Investment Administration in Wroclaw: ‘Summer is a particularly busy time for us, because holiday work in schools is a priority for the Municipal Investment Administration. We want pupils to return to facilities that are refurbished, safe and adapted to modern needs.’
