Dozens of brand new buses, including zero-emission buses - such novelties await passengers of public transport travelling on city lines in the western part of Wroclaw and agglomeration lines running to Miękinia and Kąty Wrocławskie. The Transport Department of the Wroclaw City Office has just announced a new tender for the operation of these lines.

The tender will select a carrier to provide selected bus services for six years. The carrier will have to purchase modern buses that meet the requirements set by the City Office.

Which lines will be served by new buses?

The company that wins the tender will operate the following city lines:

  •     101,
  •     104,
  •     117,
  •     123,
  •     137,
  •     138
  •     and 327

It will also provide agglomeration services for the Miękinia municipality on lines:

  •     917,
  •     923,
  •     937,
  •     (938)
  •     and 948

and selected services of line

  •     909,

which connects Wroclaw with the Kąty Wrocławskie municipality.

The new city line 327 will run from Kozanów to Maślice and on school days also to Pracze Odrzańskie. This will enable pupils to access the educational facility at Białostocka Street.

Passengers using agglomeration lines will also notice the changes. There will be an increase in the number of journeys on lines 938 and 948, which provide connections to the rapidly developing residential and industrial area in the municipality of Miękinia.

In addition, part of the 948 line service will be routed through the centre of Wróblowice and Lutynia villages, creating a connection requested by residents.

Paulina Tyniec-Piszcz, Director of the Transport Department of the Wroclaw City Office: We consistently and systematically develop agglomeration transport services, and in this tender we also strengthen city lines serving the western areas of Wroclaw. Due to the intensifying co-operation between Wroclaw and its neighbouring municipalities, the use of public transport becomes more accessible and attractive.

What new buses will appear on the streets?

All vehicles will be brand new and one in five will be a zero-emission bus. They will be fully air-conditioned and low-floor vehicles. In all of them, it will be possible to charge portable devices via USB and to use the public Wi-Fi.

In addition to the standard equipment, they will additionally have facilities for passengers with reduced mobility and sensory disabilities. They will be equipped with a state-of-the-art passenger information system and innovative passenger counting gates that, in addition to the standard counting of people getting on and off the bus, will be able to recognise whether a passenger with a bicycle or a parent with a pushchair has boarded the bus.

The number of seats available for wheelchair passengers will also increase, including smaller midi buses. Each new bus will also be equipped with AED defibrillators.

Companies bidding for the tender will receive extra points if they offer buses equipped with a brake assist system (BAS). In contrast, a system for the detection of pedestrians and cyclists on the right side of the bus will be a standard requirement.

When will the new buses go out on the routes and how many of them will run?

The successful carrier in the tender will be required to put a total of 31 brand new buses into service. 26 of them are standard solo buses. Six of them will have a zero-emission propulsion system. The list will be completed with five midi buses.

The contracting authority envisaged the possibility of increasing the number of vehicles during the contract period by a further four solo buses, including two zero-emission buses. The operator will have a maximum of 12 months from the date of signing the contract to deliver the required number of vehicles and to commerce the provision of services.

This means that if all the paperwork can be closed in the next few months, the new vehicles will hit the streets of Wroclaw and the rest of the agglomeration in the summer of 2026.

Interested parties can submit bids until 23rd April 2025, 12:00 pm.
