We switch from the car or bike to the train, and we are at the Wrocław Główny station within fifteen minutes. We do not drive into the city centre, getting stuck in traffic jams and desperately searching for the cheapest place to park, because we can park for free at the P+R car park at Leśnica. We can also switch to a bus or tram, as it is a five-minute walk from the new car park to the Leśnica terminus.

Wrocławskie Inwestycje has announced that the construction of the Park and Ride car park on Rubczaka Street near the Wrocław Leśnica station is nearing completion.

Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw: ‘Park & Ride car parks are one of the cornerstones of our transport policy. We are completing the construction of the facility in Leśnica: 66 new stops that will enable residents to change to public transport with ease.

The 14-year history of P+R car parks

The city is expanding its Park & Ride infrastructure by creating new car parks to make it easier for residents to reach their destinations quickly and conveniently. The first car park of this type was built at the Wrocław Psie Pole railway station in 2012. Today, there are 2,808 parking spaces in more than 35 locations in Wrocław. And that is not all.

Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw: - Work is currently underway on the terminus at Swojczyce, where a 166-space car park is to be built, and a further four sites are being designed. It is a consistent strategy. We want residents to have a genuine alternative to driving across the city. Leave the car on the outskirts, and we will cover the rest of the way together.

Lighting, a bicycle shelter and greenery

Work on the Park and Ride facility at the Leśnica railway station began in early November last year. Now there are 66 parking spaces available, including three for people with disabilities and two for electric vehicles.

With the environment in mind, most of the stands are made from perforated panels, which are excellent at retaining rainwater! The lighting will also be environmentally friendly – 15 energy-efficient LED lamps have been installed in the car park.

Cyclists will have access to a covered 'Bike & Ride' shelter. During the works, new safe pavements made of paving stones and mineral-resin surfacing were also constructed, along with turning lanes, steps and a ramp for people with reduced mobility. Street furniture is also already in place: benches and trash bins.

Piotr Paś, CEO of Wrocławskie Inwestycje: ‘The contractor is carrying out the final tidying-up work and preparing for the grand finale. We will plant 20 trees – including maples, wild cherries and rowan trees – as well as over 6,500 shrubs, such as snowberries and euonymus, at four locations within Leśnica.

As soon as the teams plant the greenery and tidy up the site, the commissioning phase will begin. If everything goes according to plan, the car park will become open to residents in June this year.

The cost of the project is nearly PLN 3.4 million. The project was co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Lower Silesia programme for the years 2021–2027.

More car parks in Wroclaw

  • In addition, further Park & Ride facilities will be built at:
  • Wrocław Zakrzów railway station | 50 spaces
  • Wrocław Pracze station | 85 spaces
  • Wrocław Wojnów Wschodni railway station | 60 spaces
  • intersection of Wołowska and Żmigrodzka streets | two car parks, with a total capacity of nearly 160 vehicles.

The projects are being carried out on a 'design-and-build' basis. Design concepts have already been drawn up for all locations, and the contractor will prepare the detailed documentation and carry out the construction work. The total cost of building all these car parks is almost PLN 24 million.

The project ‘Expansion of the Park and Ride System in Wroclaw – Phase III’ is co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Lower Silesia Programme for the years 2021–2027. The grant amounts to almost PLN 10 million.

In the last five years alone, Wrocław has allocated nearly PLN 40 million to the construction of Park & Ride car parks.
