Professor Norman Davies, a British historian of Welsh descent has received in the Belvedere the act of granting Polish citizenship. The document was handed by the Polish president, Bronisław Komorowski.Davies is a professor of the British Academy, and an author of many works concerning the history of Poland (e.g. "Boże Igrzysko" [God's Playground]), Europe, and the monumental history of Wrocław "Mikrokosmos. Portret miasta środkowoeuropejskiego" [Microcosm: A Portrait of a Central European City].In 2002 the outstanding scholar was granted the title of the Honorary Resident of Wrocław. At the beginning of June the professor celebrated his 75. birthday in the capital of the Lower Silesia.On receiving the act of granting Polish citizenship, the professor declared that he wasn't renouncing British citizenship. "You can be a faithful Pole, and a faithful Briton, with no clash. You can be a patriotic Pole, and a dedicated European" he said at the ceremony.
