The primary aim of the project is to create a high quality of public space and to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. The authors of the project of change of the intended use of ul. Antoniego focused mainly on the moderation of car traffic. The planned change will cover the introduction of side islands constituting a new public space. In addition, the interruption of the riding line will reduce the speed of car traffic and cause drivers to be more attentive.
The implementation of the project will be beneficial not only for inhabitants, but also for owners of service premises located in buildings at ul. św. Antoniego. Creating a friendly space will help to improve the attractiveness of the place and will stimulate the development of the service base.
Why ul. św. Antoniego?
The ul. św. Antoniego street is located in the Borough of Four Temples, which owes its unique character to magnificent sacred buildings and a rich cultural and educational offer. The attractiveness of the area concerned is also enhanced by the direct proximity of the Market Square, numerous cafes, pubs and music clubs. It is also worth noticing characteristic backyards, including two arcades with various functions.
Similar solutions aimed at the moderation of street traffic that are being carried out in other Polish and foreign cities prove successful mainly thanks to the increase of users’ safety and the creation of a new quality of public space.
Social consultations
Social consultations under the project ‘Moderation of traffic through the construction of side islands and the change of incoming traffic organisation at ul. św. Antoniego in Wroclaw’ took place on 13th November (Friday) in the Tourist Information Centre at ul. św. Antoniego in Wroclaw. The meeting was attended by inhabitants of real properties located at ul. św. Antoniego, owners of food establishments, representatives of municipal associations and users. Social consultations referred to activities being planned at ul. św. Antoniego. At the very beginning, a concept for the development of the street space by designers was presented. The participants could learn more about the concept for the development of public space and express their opinions or point out problematic issues concerning the functioning of the street.
Proposed solutions with regard to the construction of side islands, the introduction of irregularities in vehicular traffic and the restriction of parking places were approved by the participants. Representatives of the inhabitants pointed out the need to increase the control of ul. św. Antoniego by the City Guard and the surroundings and to improve public space cleaning services.
The success of the project is, therefore, dependent on the commitment and co-operation of the city in the creation of a new quality of the public space of ul. św. Antoniego.
