Student Volunteer Centre at the Wroclaw University of Technology has its seat in the Students House T-15 in Wittigowo at Buskupin. There is a room for trainings hosting 20 people, small meeting room, the so-called lounge and an office room.
“This place was created for scientific circles, cultural agendas and other students’ associations which do not have their seat and which have to have a place for meetings”, Sylwester Oracz from the MANUS Foundation supervising the Centre says.
It will fulfil several goals. Organisations connected to Wroclaw University of Technology, non-governmental organisations and external companies will deliver trainings for students there.
”There is only one restriction for the use of the Centre: courses have to be free of charge”, Sylwester Oracz emphasizes.
First of all, the new place is dedicated to young people who want to face the challenge of volunteer work. The Centre will host lectures about the rules of organizing students’ festivities and cultural events, and manners of searching for sponsors and funds.
“We plan to make the best use of skills and knowledge of students who will join us”, Sylwester Oracz says.
The first training is already being delivered in the Centre. The team of five members is already being prepared for the March Students’ Activity Days (Dni Aktywności Studenckiej). New volunteers are still welcome.
“As there will be lots of events, we do not have any limit of places. For example, the lecture in the Centre will be delivered by a small team of volunteers, but during the Family Picnic (Piknik Rodzinny) over one hundred volunteers are working”, MANUS Foundation representative says. “Voluntary work means not only interesting activities in students’ spare time, but also a place where an idea for professional career may appear due to the fact that there are many forms and places of work and people to meet. It is also an opportunity to learn work organization, gain new contacts and learn skills required in the “adult” life after studies.”
The new centre in Wittigowo constitutes yet one more Wroclaw centre organizing individuals who want to support other people or initiatives with their free of charge work. Regular trainings and workshops for young adults and adults are delivered also by the City Volunteer Centre (Miejskie Centrum Wolontariatu).
