According to the contractual provisions, the construction of the modern Lower Silesian Centre for Oncology, Pulmonology and Haematology (LSCOPH) should be completed by August 2027 at the latest.
‘One year on from the start of construction of the new oncological hospital, there is huge progress in all areas. Construction is more than four months ahead of schedule, with around 400 people working every day,’ announced Marshal of the Lower Silesia Province Paweł Gancarz at the beginning of November 2025.
26 wards and 670 beds
The investment, worth PLN 1.5 billion, is financed from the budget of Lower Silesia’s local government and the state budget. Once construction is complete, the time will come to fit out the interiors and to transfer part of the equipment from the old hospital at Hirszfelda. The new hospital located on Hipokratesa Street (near Kosmonautów Street) on the Leśnica housing estate will be opened in 2027 or 2028.
The new LSCOPH in figures:
- 3 floors, ground floor and underground level,
- 26 inpatient wards,
- 30 outpatient treatment units,
- 73 doctors’ offices in the hospital outpatient clinic,
- 14 rooms in the operating theatre,
- 671 beds in double rooms,
- 1,026 spaces in the car park near the building.
Comprehensive treatment in one place
Representatives of the provincial government argue that the size and importance of the new hospital is shown not by the figures, but by the fact that three existing units of the LSCOPH will be combined in one facility:
- oncology unit, now located on Hirszfelda Square,
- pulmonology unit (now Grabiszyńska Street),
- haematology & transplantation unit (Grabiszyńska Street).
dcopih.pl: ‘The biggest benefit for patients will be the full consolidation of care. This will enable patients to receive comprehensive treatment in one place, without having to move between different locations. This is a modern model of care in which the expertise and highest standards of all specialities will be integrated under one roof.
The hospital at Hipokratesa Street has been designed to provide the shortest and most efficient diagnostic and therapeutic pathway dedicated to a particular type of cancer.
Doctors constantly emphasise and remind us that the key method of fighting cancer is prevention. Unfortunately, it is still neglected in Poland. ‘Enrolment in health screening check-ups is still very low. We try to counteract this, to educate patients and their families so that they come in for check-ups and so that they can have a healthy life,’ appealed Professor Bożena Cybulska-Stopa, Head of the Oncology Clinic of LSCOPH, on TVP 3 Wrocław on World Cancer Day (4th February).
