  3. Demolition of Arkady Wrocławskie begins. There will be traffic disruptions

As we have already reported, the demolition of the Arkady Wrocławskie shopping mall will begin on Saturday 8th February, and that the traffic organisation will change on the night of 7th–8th February. Today we have received information that the whole action will be postponed by a week. So, until 15th February, we are driving and walking around Arkady Wrocławskie according to the old rules. See what will change after this date.

Develia’s press office: ‘With reference to the earlier information provided by Develia’s press office regarding the start date of the demolition of Arkady Wrocławskie and the implementation of a replacement traffic organisation, we would like to inform you that due to administrative procedures, the implementation of the replacement traffic organisation has been postponed and should start around 14th February.’

Until the sales agreement is finalised, Develia is the current owner of Arkady Wrocławskie. The site is being bought by Vastint Poland, which will build a mixed-use facility on the site after the demolition is complete.

Demolition of Arkady Wrocławskie – changes for pedestrians

For safety reasons, it will not be possible for pedestrians to cross the pavements at:

  • Komandorska – via the pavement on the western side, i.e. right next to Arkady;
  • Swobodna – on the northern side – pedestrian traffic will pass through the EPI market area;
  • Nasypowa.

From the side of ul. Powstańców Śląskich, the crossing will be available, but it will be moved closer to the roadway. The cycle path running along Powstańców Śląskich towards the centre at the level of Arkady will be diverted to the lane for turning right into Nasypowa.

Demolition of Arkady Wrocławskie – changes for drivers

One lane of the roadway (the far right by the Arkady building) will be occupied at Swobodna Street. Drivers will have two lanes to go straight ahead, and one of them will also be used for turning right.

‘From Swobodna Street – on the roadway from the railway station towards Gwiaździsta Street – it will not be possible to turn left into Powstańców Śląskich Street. Driving from Komandorska, in order to enter Powstańców Śląskich Street, you will have to cross it, reach Gwiaździsta, from there turn into Szczęśliwa and turn into Powstańców Śląskich,’ explains Director Andrzej Brzoza.

Nasypowa Street will be a one-way route for drivers (entrance from Powstańców Śląskich Street) and will only be accessible to vehicles from the construction site service, municipal services and suppliers serving the premises, pubs and restaurants located at Bogusławskiego Street.

The entrance to Nasypowa Street will also be controlled for safety reasons – the contractor is obliged to set up a post there with an adequately trained construction worker.

At Komandorska Street, in the section between Nasypowa and Swobodna, one of the three roadway lanes will be occupied – the far right one adjacent to Arkady. Drivers will be able to turn right into Swobodna from the middle lane and drive straight down Komandorska Street, and drive left from the far left lane towards the main railway station and the Wroclavia mall.

Demolition of Arkady – rubble will be carried away by small trucks

The city set a condition for the contractor: construction work is to be serviced by vehicles with a gross weight of up to 9 tons. They can access the construction site via Karkonoska, Swobodna, Gwiaździsta, Szczęśliwa, Nasypowa and Komandorska. The exit from the construction site has been established via Komandorska, Swobodna, Gwiaździsta, Szczęśliwa and Powstańców Śląskich streets and farther towards the city exit.

The contractor for the demolition work has to plan it in such a way that a maximum of five vehicles per hour would enter and leave the site. The city announces that it will ask the Road Transport Inspectorate to carry out inspections.

Demolition of Arkady Wrocławskie – minor change in public transport

The route of the bus 602 will change, but there will be no change in the location of the stops.

How will the demolition of Arkady Wrocławskie proceed?

According to the information we have received from the PR agencies serving the Develia company, which still owns the facility, that the building's external parts will be dismantled in the first place.

Develia’s press office: ‘The scope of the demolition work, for which Develia is responsible, will last until mid-year. Further work and the course of the demolition process will be decided by a new investor – Vastint Poland.

Replacement traffic organisation for the period of demolition work, for which Develia is responsible, is planned for the next four months.’
