Construction of the tram route through Popowice: what is happening? [PHOTOS, VIDEO]

The construction of the tram route to Popowice is entering another phase. The road workers had to close the intersection of Długa and Poznańska streets for traffic; they began to strip off the old surface and will rebuild the networks. A huge structure has arrived at the building site – upon its assembly, it will serve as a temporary viaduct for trains.

From 5th October, cars and means of public transport travel differently in the area of the intersection of Długa and Poznańska streets. The road workers have started another stage of works on the new tram route to Popowice.

They go deep underground

Before a new tram trackage is ready, underground works will be necessary. Exactly at this time, the contractor has started the reconstruction of the sewerage network, the construction of a water supply network and works on medium-voltage and gas supply networks.

The parts to be used for making a temporary railway viaduct arrived at the building site, too. Erecting this structure is necessary in order to start the reconstruction of the viaduct. The parts were transported to Wroclaw in a convoy from the Idzikowice station near Opoczno at night.

The temporary viaduct will serve trains at least until the middle of 2020.

Investment in figures:

  • 3.8 km of new tram trackage
  • 5.4 km of new and rebuilt roads
  • 17 rebuilt intersections
  • 5.7 km of new or rebuilt cycle tracks
  • 31 bus/tram stops (including 21 new)
  • 120 million PLN cost of Stage 1 works

The new tram route through Popowice is planned to be opened by the end of 2020.
