There is already a permission to build the Great Island Alley [Aleja Wielkiej Wyspy] in Wroclaw. In 2023, the alley will connect Krzyki to Biskupin and Sępolno.

The new route will allow drivers to get from Al. Armii Krajowej to ul. Mickiewicza. It is one of the biggest and longest anticipated road investments in Wroclaw. The project has just received a permission for the immediate performance of a road investment.

‘This means that we can start to hand over the plots covered by the investment to the contractor,’ says Krzysztof Świercz from Wrocławskie Inwestycje. ‘As soon as this stage is completed, building works will start. We have 26 months to complete the entire investment, excluding winter months. This road will certainly be put to use in 2023. The investment would have started earlier, but the pandemic forced us to change our plans,’ he adds.

It will not be a ring road

The total length of the Great Island Alley is 3.4 km. In addition, 12.5 km of pavements and 9.5 km of cycle tracks will be made.

The most complicated and time-consuming part of the project will be the construction of a nearly 700-metre long bridge on the Oder. On that occasion, an over 350-metre long bridge on the Oława river will also be built. Each of these bridges will be provided with pavements and cycle tracks. It will also be necessary to expand the flyover over ul. Krakowska and to build new such facilities over Wilcza, Międzyrzecka and Wittiga streets. The intersections with ul. Olszewskiego, Dembowskiego and Mickiewicza will be rebuilt, too.

According to the environmental decision, screens will be installed on the route to protect the local natural environment and special passages for amphibians will be built.

The general contractor for the investment is Banimex Sp. z o.o. Its cost is 234 million PLN.
