Witold Ziomek, Chairman of MPWiK S.A. in Wroclaw: ‘The modernisation of the main water supply pipeline at Mickiewicza Street is an investment in the safety and continuity of water supplies for residents of this part of Wroclaw. We are systematically replacing the oldest and most worn-out sections of the network to ensure that the water supply infrastructure becomes increasingly reliable and resilient to breakdowns.’
Work will begin in the park on the northern side of Mickiewicza Street, near the intersection with Kopernika Street. This is the section where MPWiK’s staff:
- will carry out necessary connections to the existing pipelines,
- will provide a means of safely shutting down the main water supply system along the park,
- will ensure that no one loses access to water during the period of work.
During this phase of the work, MPWiK does not anticipate any significant disruption to traffic. Work will be carried out mainly in the park and away from the mainlane.
Investment on Mickiewicza Street. What will be modernised?
- the 400 mm diameter cast iron main line will be converted to a 225 mm HDPE pipe,
- the 125 mm diameter cast iron distribution pipes will be replaced with 160 mm HDPE pipes.
Martyna Bańcerek, Press Officer at MPWiK Wrocław: ‘The network under modernisation was built before World War II. At that time, water was distributed throughout Wroclaw via large-diameter pipes. The water supply network is now much more extensive – we can supply water to a given address from several different directions. This allows us to reduce the diameter of the pipes and to limit the area of water cut-off in the event of a fault.
The total net cost of the project will be PLN 5.5 million.’
