The chief purpose behind the change is to increase safety of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Additionally, the new traffic calming zone occupies the Plac Muzealny area and the adjacent school, which is simply bound to improve safety of the students.
For several years now, the City Office has been consistent in reducing traffic in the city centre. Apart from speeding restrictions, a number of investments were put in place to change the character of selected streets and a number of improvements were made for cyclists and pedestrians alike. Ul Zamkowa is soon turning into a pedestrian area. The initiative to create a new traffic calming zone comes from activists representing Akcja Miasto and the Towarzystwo Upiększania Miasta Wrocławia (Association for the Beautification of the City of Wroclaw). The solutions were discussed by a number of parties, including the City Pedestrian Officer.
