October Concert Offensive

The amount of concerts and music events taking place in our city in October can indeed be breathtaking. There will be days when five different - but equally interesting - artists will play in five different places at the same time! Let us recommend those events that are simply unmissable.

Music of the world

Let's start with energy. The enthusiasts of Cuban dance rhythms should find interesting the concert of Grupo Compay Segundo (October 11th, the Concert Hall of Polskie Radio Wrocław), a band, whose leader, none other than Compay Segundo himself, is a legendary personality not only in Cuba. A not really dancing band, the folk-punk R.U.T.A., and their Belarussian singer Nasta Niakrasava will perform day earlier (October 10th, Stary Klasztor). The artists will promote their latest album "Na uschod. Wolność albo śmierć". Worth recommending is also the concert of Mor Karbasi (October 24th, Stary Klasztor), a singer from Morocco, the latest star of Sephardic music, more and more often compared to Yasmin Levy by the enchanted critics. One concert that will surely make an unforgettable impression on the audience will be the grand scale performance of the Kayah & Transoriental Orchestra (October 10th, Hala Orbita). And those who, against all odds, prefer to listen to music with their... feet, will surely like the perspective of taking part in a show "Touch Of Ireland. The Storm" (October 29th, Stary Klasztor), prepared by Carrantuohill and Treblers groups.

Jazz

Also jazz enthusiasts should be able to find something to their liking in the October concert offer. Definitely a major attraction will be the concert of Marcin Wasilewski Trio, recording for the famous recod company, ECM, with whom a Grammy laureate will perform, an excellent saxophone player Joakim Milder (October 14th, Stary Klasztor). Yet another jazz celebrity visiting Wrocław in October will be Marek Napiórkowski, who, together with his sextet, will promote their latest record, "Up!" (October 17th, the Concert Hall of Polskie Radio Wrocław). On the other hand, the enthusiasts of the lighter form of jazz will be thrilled to know about a concert of Monika Borzym (October 18th, Stary Klasztor), and those who love music prepared by the Ninja Tune, and who were longing to hear the latest music of Igor Pudło and Marcin Cichy, will be surely ignited by the information about the Wrocław concert of Skalpel (October 24th, Eter).

Rock

As is tradition, the fans of more or less traditional rock music, especially in its domestic rendition, will have a lot to choose from at the beginning of October. The more traditional one will be presented by, for example, the stoner rockers from J.D. Overdrive (October 4th, Od Zmierzchu Do Świtu), as well as Cochise, with the vocal of Paweł Małaszyński (the same day, Stary Klasztor), and also the veterans from IRA (October 10th, Alibi), Kult (a day later, the Business Club Hall at the Slask Stadium) and those well-respected by all Goths, the Closterkeller (October 19th, Alibi). A concert of Coma looks very promising, too, as the band intends to play their hits in the acoustic version (October 12th, Hala Orbita). It's not out of the question, though, that the domestic performers will be overshadowed by some foreign stars. The concert of Fish is a genuine festivity for all fans of this artist (October 15th, Eter), as well as the performance of The Toy Dolls for all enthusiasts of the British punk (October 17th, Alibi).

Metal

Wrocław fans of heavy metal music will not be wronged, either. At the very beginning of the month they will be visited by the worldwide success-acclaimed Behemoth (October 5th, Eter). And two days later playing for them will be the popularity-boosting Swedish In Solitude (October 7th, Firlej). And almost right afterwards, they will have to make a choice between a gig of the traditionally heavy metal CETI (October 10th, Od Zmierzchu Do Świtu), and one of the progressive metal band, Pain Of Salvation (the same day, Zaklęte Rewiry). This looks like a simple choice, but not necessarily for everyone. Surely none of the long-haired fans of noise shouldn't miss the visit of Thaw, one of the latest revelations of Polish black metal (October 17th, Firlej), as well as the performance of a band that is most famous in this group, the English Anathema (October 27th, Hala Orbita). Perhaps this is not metal any more, perhaps the Cavanagh brothers play too softly and have floated into post-rock vibes, nevertheless, Anathema is the legend of the powerful playing, and the legend deserves respect. Their latest record may not be as good as the "Weather Systems", but it will definitely sound well live.

Festivals

A few music festivals will take place in our city in October, and there will surely be some musical treats for everyone. During the one-day, yet musically abundant II Festiwalu Pieśniarze Niepokorni [2nd Uncompromising Singers Festival (October 4th, Firlej), performing will be Renata Przemyk, who will give an accoustic, intimate concert, as well as Projekt Volodia , who are close to the hearts of Wysocki's song enthusiasts, and Piotr Bakal, not a stranger to the connoisseur of sung poetry. Drummers, and all those who appreciate the craft of drumming, will be attracted to Drum Fest, an event organised between the Upper Silesia region, ant the cities of Opole and Wrocław. According to plan, as a part of the festival our city will host the above mentioned Pain Of Salvation as well as the Gene Hoglan Experience band (October 19th, Zaklęte Rewiry). The fans of Death, Dark Angel and Strapping Young Lad should already be whetting their appetites for a show of drumming mastery. The Avant Art Festival will also have its faithful audience. The event fill feature the exciting and provoking Peaches (October 10th, Eter), as well as the ephemeral Supersilent Feat. John Paul Jones, i.e. the masters of free-avant-noise-rock improvisations, accompanied by the bass player of the Led Zeppelin (October 11th, Impart). The greatest attendance will no doubt have the Konfrontacje Rockowe wROCK [wROCK Rock Confrontations] (25-26 października, Hala Orbita), perfectly matching the expectations of students. The first day will feature Turbo, Kat and Hunter, and the second - Strachy Na Lachy and Happysad.

Curiosities

Those who seek new vibes in music, and are not really into Avant Art, can be interested in some one-time October concerts. For example, a performance of Peter J. Birch, a songwriter popular amongst the guests of the Open'er and OFF Festiwals, who is actually a Pole (October 8th , Stary Klasztor), or those melancholy electronics from the XXANAXX (October 12th, Stary Klasztor), or the new hope for Polish alternative, Misia F, aka the singer of the Tres.b (October 16th, Stary Klasztor), as well as Organek, promoting his latest record, "Głupi", which has already made some commotion in the music world (October 20th, Stary Klasztor).
