The stadium will be packed in full at the Conference League final. Around 41,500 people will watch the match between Chelsea and Betis from the stands of Tarczyński Arena. And there should be even more fans, including visitors from England and Spain, in the city. Suffice it to say that additional flights to Wroclaw – 50 charter and 12 regular flights – have been scheduled.
Renata Granowska, Deputy Mayor of Wroclaw: ‘One of the biggest football events in Europe is ahead of us. For us it is a celebration, promotion, but also a major logistic and transport challenge. Tens of thousands of fans will arrive by plane, coach and car. We are in the final stages of preparation and I am asking all residents to be very understanding and patient on the day of the match, the day before and the day after, as traffic in the city will be heavy.’
Streets closed, no parking under the stadium
In order to avoid traffic paralysis and to prevent endless traffic jams, circling in search of parking spaces and leaving cars in unauthorised places, officials decided that they would close the streets and car parks around Tarczyński Arena.
‘This means that there will be nowhere to park in the two car parks directly near the stadium, both from Królewiecka Street and from Lotnicza Street. Trying to get there by car will only result in frustration and a waste of time,’ warns Joanna Urbańska-Jaworska from the Wroclaw City Office. ‘Therefore, we have an important request for everyone: do not come to the match by car.
This refers above all to Śląska Avenue and Królewska Street:
- The day before the match – on 27th May – the police will occupy the right-hand lane of Śląska Avenue (from Bartoszewskiego Roundabout towards Lotnicza Street);
- the right-hand lane of Śląska Avenue will also be unavailable on the day of the match (28th May);
- on 28th May, from 5:00 p.m. until the end of the day, Śląska Avenue will be closed in the section between Lotnicza and Bartoszewskiego Roundabout, i.e. beside the stadium;
- On 28th May, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Królewiecka Street will also be closed in the section from Bartoszewskiego Roundabout to Maślicka Street;
- During this time, city buses running on Królewiecka Street will be detoured via Maślicka, and technical lanes on Graniczna and Cichociemnych streets will be occupied by coaches bringing fans from the airport.
It is possible that other streets in the vicinity of the stadium will also be temporarily closed. In such cases, traffic will be directed by the police.
Trams 3, 10 and 19 will change routes
Passengers of trams 3, 10 and 19 must expect difficulties on the match day (28th May):
- Trams 19 will change their route from 3:00 p.m. and will travel across the University Bridge, bypassing the Pomorska stop;
- at the Kozanów terminus, tram 19 will enter from the other side – there will be a change of direction;
- in the case of line 22, the location of the stop at Orląt Lwowskich will change – the tram will stop closer to the city moat at Podwale (instead of the stop at Piłsudskiego Street);
- trams 3 and 10 will not run to Leśnica after 10:00 p.m., as the tracks will be used for return service after the match;
- Instead of trams 3 and 10, buses 710 from the city centre and in the other direction will run to Leśnica during this time.
Witold Woźny, President of MPK Wroclaw: ‘We have a great deal of experience in organising transport at such large events and, as always, we are fully prepared. On the day of the match, our staff will be in the city to provide information on how to get around by public transport. Please make use of their assistance.’
To the Conference League final in Wroclaw by tram or bus
Officials explain that all temporary changes are being made to make it smoother for fans to arrive at and return from the stadium. For this purpose, trams and buses marked with non-standard numbers and red and blue boards will run.
Red trams and buses are for fans with red match tickets:
- trams T12, T19, T21 and ST1
- and buses B102, B103, B127 and SB1
- will depart to the stadium from Jana Pawła II Square.
Blue trams and buses are for fans with blue match tickets:
- trams T20, T22 and ST2
- and bus SB2
- will depart to the stadium from Orląt Lwowskich Square.
The idea is to ensure that each group of supporters (red and blue) is closer to their designated stadium entrance upon arrival. Fans with tickets marked in red enter through Gate E from Królewiecka Street, and the others enter through Gate F from Lotnicza Street.
Trams for fans will also run to Tarczyński Arena from the Wrocław Główny railway station:
- red T18 from the Peronowa stop,
- red T21 from the Stawowa stop,
- blue T22 from the Piłsudskiego stop.
There will be volunteers (wearing green caps and waistcoats with the inscription FAN SUPPORT) outside the stadium to help supporters. In addition, the passage routes will be colour-coded. Additional patrols will be provided by the police and the city guard.
Additionally:
- the shuttle bus from the airport to the stadium from 3:00 p.m. and at a frequency of 15 minutes,
- city bus 106 will run more often from the airport to the centre.
Return from the final towards the centre
From 11:00 p.m., fans will be taken from the stadium to the city centre and the train station by:
- red lines from Królewiecka Street – special tram T1, special bus B1 and night bus 245;
- blue lines from Lotnicza Street – special tram T2, special bus B2 and night buses 243 and 253;
- trams and buses will depart every 3 minutes on the average.
Lower Silesian Railways will also make transport smoother – after the final, four special trains will depart from the Wrocław Stadion stop to the Wrocław Główny station. They will be free of charge and for fans only.
Car parks with transfer to trams
For those, however, who decide to use a car on the day of the final, officials suggest leaving the car in one of several Park&Ride (P&R) car parks, which are connected to the stadium by trams 3, 10, 20 and 21.
The names and numbers of these car parks:
- Leśnica P&R 14 – recommended change to trams 3 and 10,
- Kosmonautów–Kamiennogórska P&R 20 – recommended change to tram 20,
- Kosmonautów–Fieldorfa P&R 21 – tram 20,
- Kosmonautów–Boguszowska P&R 22 – tram 20,
- Oporów P&R 15 – tram 20.
‘If you are going to the match, use public transport or Park&Ride car parks. Do not come to the final by car. The area around the stadium will be completely closed off to cars,’ warns Joanna Urbańska-Jaworska once again.
On the match day, all P&R car parks in the city will be free of charge. The barriers at some of the car parks will be lifted from 5:00 p.m.
In connection with the final and the arrival of thousands of fans from England, Spain and elsewhere in Wroclaw, officials expect more intense traffic from 4:00 p.m. Residents, especially in the western and north-western estates, are requested to be understanding and patient.
It is a good idea to keep up with all information about inconveniences and changes in transport service that will appear, among others, on MPK Wroclaw's social media.
