  3. The new tennis hall at Spiska Street is now open. See what it looks like!

From 1st February, four indoor clay courts are available at the Spartan Tennis and Fitness Leisure Centre at Spiska Street in Wroclaw. The construction of the modern hall, which stood in place of the old balloon structure, has been completed. The children are already playing! How do they like it?

The tennis hall at Spiska Street is open

Until now, during the autumn-winter period (from October till the end of April), the four courts have been covered with an already worn-out pneumatic hall, called the “balloon”. It has served for more than 17 years and the time has come to change that.

Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw: 'Wroclaw is a city of active people and this makes us very happy. And there should be the right infrastructure to support this activity . First, courts at Pułtuska Street were built, and now courts at Spiska Street followed. This is, of course, not the end of our investments within the Spartan company. We want to change and put in order this infrastructure so that it could serve inhabitants as well as possible.

More than 100 tons of single-component tennis clay was used to build the courts. This is one of Europe's finest clay surfaces, where such events as the Roland Garros Cup are played. Thanks to its softness and flexibility, it contributes to reducing the risk of injury.

Marek Łapiński, CEO of WCT Spartan: ‘The tennis hall at Spiska Street will have retractable side walls, and the surface, unlike the hall at Pułtuska Street opened in 2024, will remain soft, which is important for people who need to be care about their joints.’

In the Centre at Spiska Street, the court house with a reception area, changing rooms (including sanitary facilities), a tennis shop and a bar has also been refurbished. Customers also have the opportunity to string their racquets on the spot.

The construction of the new hall began in August last year and continued for six months. Its cost is PLN 4 million.

Children are already using the new hall

Children who are spending their winter holidays at a tennis and ice-skating day camp in WCT Spartan at Spiska Street, had the opportunity to be the first to try out the new tennis hall. How do they like it? What do they think about tennis?

‘It is the first time I have played tennis, but I am already enjoying it and I would like to come back here with my parents,’ said Mirka, a participant in the day camp at Spartan.

Ula has played tennis before and is honing her skills on the new courts.

Ula, a participant in the day camp: 'I really enjoy playing in the new hall. We have a nice coach and I like it here. There is a lot of running in tennis, and I like that kind of activity. I would like to be like Iga Świątek one day.’

‘The courts are great. This is the first time I have played tennis and I am happy. I enjoy this sport a lot and I think it will not stop here at the day camp. I will keep on training,’ Kostek told us.
