New benches, chairs, trees and several thousand newly planted crocus flowers are still waiting for the arrival of real spring, but the renovated embankment is now available to both residents and tourists.
A nearly one-kilometre-long section of the Oder river front offers more than just a stroll. You can sit and relax in the shade or right by the river bank. Strollers and cyclists can now enjoy a safe pass underneath the Pokoju Bridge. The pass connects the Piaskowy and the Grunwaldzki Bridges, which both span the River Oder.
Between the Ceglan and Piaskowy bastions a newly developed amphitheatre slides down to the river bank and adjacent marina for canoes and little boats. The Gondola Bay features sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz. Her works are now also on display at the back of the National Museum in Wroclaw.
The embankment's design has been provided by Piotr Żuraw, who in December 2008 won a competition for the regeneration of Xavery Dunikowski Embankment. The investment is estimated at 19 million 850 thousand PLN.
