Advert websites are run by student governments and university organisations, and specialised departments with accommodation offers for students have their own message boards. It is the most popular form of searching for candidates for tenants and flats for rent. Several new addresses of flats, lodgings and vacant rooms are published every day at instancje.pl – a website run by the Manus Foundation. Many advertisers look for additional tenants for the flats that they rent. A room in a student's flat in Biskupin, with access to basic kitchen and bathroom furnishings and the Internet, costs 450 PLN. This is a relatively cheap offer if we remember that it takes around 10 minutes to get to universities in the area of Plac Grunwaldzki. The closer to the university, the higher the price. For example, you have to pay 450 PLN for a bed in a double room in a flat at ul. Parkowa (even closer to Plac Grunwaldzki). Slightly more expensive, but also moderate prices are offered in the city centre. A three-room flat for five persons two steps away from ul. Świdnicka costs slightly above 3,000 PLN. The owner of premises wants 750 PLN for a single room and will take 550 PLN from each of two students who will occupy a room without a balcony. Most of the accommodation offers are students’ flats. Offers from owners willing to lodge young people are less frequent, but flats with a separate entrance can always be found.
Cheap bachelor flats
‘So far they have only called and asked about conditions. No one has even decided to watch the flat yet,’ admits the owner of a renovated two-room flat in the heart of Wroclaw. She offers special advantages: the flat is excellently located (5 minutes of walking distance from the Market Square and the University) and has recently been renovated. Price: 1,300 PLN + 500 PLN of charges for everything. Why hasn’t anybody turned up yet? ‘It is said that the number of students decreases, and the accommodation offer still expands,’ she says. Moreover, you can still find a good address and a cheap offer. One of the websites offers a bachelor flat only for 800 PLN (plus utility charges) right near Plac Grunwaldzki close to the Wroclaw University of Technology, the Medical University, the University of Environmental and Life Sciences and the University Campus. Bachelor flats and other flats for rents in the first micro apartment building at ul. Pasteura. A flat with an area of slightly above 16 sq. m. (with furniture and a bathroom) costs 1,300 PLN plus charges, but a flat with an area of 11.48 sq. m. can be rented only for 990 PLN, and 26.42 sq. m. are worth 1,700 PLN. These rates apply to lower floors. The higher the floor, the more you have to pay. A flat with an area of 11.70 sq. m. with a view of the Oder or Plac Grunwaldzki costs 1,100 PLN, and if you are interested in two rooms with an area of 23.59 sq. m. three floors higher, you will have to pay 1,900 PLN for one month of lease.
