Copernicus square renovated [PHOTOS, VIDEO]

Revitalization of the square at the monument of Nicolas Copernicus is complete. Also renovated was the sculpture itself, and a fragment of the adjacent Old Town Promenade.

The square was to change by the end of the year, and the task was successfully completed. Even now it looks completely different, and in the spring when the trees, shrubs and flowers blossom, it will show its true colours.

The area has not yet been released, construction crews still do the final cleaning up, but you can already see the effects. New plants arrived, and the surfaces and the monument of Nicolas Copernicus were renovated.

What exactly did the works cover?

    • restoration of the nineteenth-century compositional layout of the fragment of the promenade
    • renovation of the pedestrian and vehicle communication system
    • reconstruction of the square by the monument of Copernicus,
    • recomposition of the vegetation to the nineteenth-century layout of the promenade, with a maximum adaptation of the existing greenery,
    • broadleaved trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses and bulbs will appear by the monument, along with the development of the square's vegetation
    • developing the area with street furniture: lawn ridges, park benches, trash cans, grills by the trees,
    • construction of lighting and irrigation
    • renovation of the monument of Copernicus.

Entrance to the Old Town Garden and the entrance to the square from ul. P. Skargi was highlighted with seasonal flowerbeds. Four beds with perennials were installed in the M.Kopernika Square, enclosed with walls of architectural concrete. In addition, the square's space was equipped with seats in the shape of balls in various sizes, also made of architectural concrete, as a reference to the planets. 'Ottoman' seats of architectural concrete appeared in the square by ul. Teatralna 4, as well as park benches and litter bins. New trees arrived, among others maple and plane trees.

The investment cost approx. 1.3 million PLN.
