Spring is drawing near, and quite a lot is going on at the zoo at the moment. The action to tag African penguins began several days ago. The penguins had their previous bands (from their former zoos) replaced with new ones bearing the Wroclaw Zoo logo. Penguins are easy to spook, which is why the personnel had to exercise patience, sensitivity and caution.
The personnel also took the opportunity to give names to those penguins which did not have any. The personnel have named the majority of the colony. But several birds still remain without a name. One bird, for example, was called Laura, after a Spanish girl doing her placement at the zoo.
Th penguins are the first birds to have arrived at the Afrykarium, a long time before it was open to the public. Quite a few species are now living at the premises. A special acclimatisation aviary for blue-bellied rollers has been mounted recently.
New decorations have also appeared to create a suitable atmosphere. An original African boat descended the swamp in the main hall, and there are genuine snags there too!
Note! The Afrykarium will be closed to the public on 13, 14 and 15 April due to works.
