Trusted profile ( in polish: “profil zaufany”) is a free and secure tool that allows You to handle official matters without leaving home. The PESEL number is an 11-digit numeric symbol that allows easy identification of the person who has it. Foreigners can get a PESEL number ex officio.

What can You use the trusted profile for?

Having a trusted profile, is very helpful, because with it You can handle administrative issues online:

  • apply for various social benefits, allowances and subsidies,
  • apply for an identity card (dowód osobisty)
  • register for permanent or temporary residence,
  • make an appointment at the municipality office,
  • register, renew or suspend business (działalność gospodarcza).

How can You create a trusted profile? There are few options:

 

  • bank or other identity provider,
  • video call with an official, 
  • at the office -fill out an application online (https://pz.gov.pl/pz/register) and confirm it, 
  • at the office (more than 2,000 locations in Poland and abroad).

PESEL

The PESEL number is an 11-digit numeric symbol that allows easy identification of the person who has it. The PESEL number contains the date of birth, sequence number, gender designation and a check number.

 

The PESEL number is assigned by the Minister in charge of informatization, ex officio in the following situations: by a Polish civil registry office when drawing up a birth certificate for a child born on Polish territory. This applies to children of Polish citizens, citizens of the European Union and members of their families who live in Poland, in connection with the fact that they have obtained the right of permanent residence, and foreigners who have obtained

  • the right of permanent residence or a permanent residence permit,
  • a residence permit for a long-term resident of the European Union,
  • refugee status, subsidiary protection or asylum,
  • permission for tolerated stay,
  • temporary protection,
  • permission to stay for humanitarian reasons.
