  3. Broadcast of the ceremony of awarding the Nobel Prize to Olga Tokarczuk

On Tuesday 10th December, Olga Tokarczuk will receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. In Wroclaw, we are celebrating this event in a special way. Those who come to the Market Square can see a live broadcast from Stockholm, take part in competitions with exceptional prizes, and buy books by Olga Tokarczuk.

Books and a special bookplate

We start the celebration at 3:30 p.m. in front of a special wall screen near the fountain on the Wroclaw market square. If you still do not have a book by Tokarczuk, you can buy it on the stand and affix a special stamp on the title page.

The exceptional bookplate was prepared specially for 10th December on the occasion of the award of the Nobel Prize. The book with such a stamp will be a beautiful souvenir from this exceptional day. You can mark also your own books, so we encourage you to bring them to the event.

Congratulation book

Before the broadcast, the audience can watch, among others, the most important fragments from the meeting with Olga Tokarczuk held in the National Forum of Music on 20th October, and a speech delivered by the writer at the time of receiving the title of the Honorary Citizen of Wroclaw on 24th June.

Wroclaw inhabitants will have an opportunity to express their congratulations to Olga Tokarczuk by signing a special book that will be displayed on 3:00 p.m. You can make your entry till the end of the Tuesday event, i.e., till 6:00 p.m. Those who cannot express their congratulations to the Nobel Prize winner on that day are invited to visit the Wroclaw city hall, where the book will be kept from Wednesday 11th December. Then it will be granted to Olga Tokarczuk.

Hot coffee or tea will be prepared for all participants (obligatorily in ecological mugs). On the market square, a photobooth with a Nobel Prize motif will also be present beside the wall screen.

Books with the Nobel winner’s autograph

Many surprises, including special competitions organised by the Wroclaw House of Literature, have been planned for participants of the event. The main prize will be Olga Tokarczuk’s books with a unique nominal dedication for the winner (the Noble Prize winner will inscribe it after her return from Stockholm, and organisers will send books by courier to winners).

At 4:30 p.m., a live broadcast from the Nobel Prize gala in the Stockholm Philharmonic will start. Olga Tokarczuk will collect a special medal and diploma from the hands of King Carl XVI Gustaf. Soon afterwards Wroclaw inhabitants will watch Tokarczuk’s speech delivered and recorded on 7th December, which is one of the most important moments connected with the award of the Swedish prize.

The Nobel Prize evening on the Wroclaw market square will last till around 6:00 p.m.

Attention! Olga Tokarczuk has prepared a surprise for Wroclaw inhabitants, so it is worth waiting till the end.
