Small parks, so-called pocket parks, are a great way to bring greenery in high density urban settings as well as empty undeveloped spaces. These are often the only forms of greenery, that can be introduced in areas lacking of green – a small green oasis in the city, where people can rest and spend their free time.
One of the most famous pocket parks is Paley Park in the center of Manhattan - located just off the street, it encourages visitors - a huge attraction is the waterfall, flowing on the back wall of the park - it is a treat for passers-by, especially children (via the city2077.pl portal).

An example of a pocket park in Wrocław can be Ptasi Zagajnik (on the picture below), which costed PLN 330,000 and realized as part of WBO 2014. On the new square in the Gajowice District, at the junction of Zaporoska, Lubuska and Skwierzyńska Streets, new paths were built, green areas were created, there are new benches, exercise equipment and lighting.
- not only local residents visit it, also people from other districts come to stay a while. They walk, jog, excercise in the gym and envy such a place! Says 88-year old Zbigniew Semka, a project leader.
New pocket parks in Wroclaw will be created as a part of the EU Grow Green project, aimed at demonstrating innovative nature based solutions for climate and water resilience, by introducing green infrastructure. Wroclaw received PLN 12 million for its implementation.
