Botanical Garden:
Plant
Biology and Morphology
In the section concerned with the biology
and morphology of plants, situated just behind the alpinarium,
numerous plots exemplify different types of flowers, their
distribution on the stem, ways of pollination, types of fruit, such as
pod, schizocarp, silique, berry or frutifications, as well as ways of
seed spreading. Different shapes of leaves and types of stems can be
seen here, too. This section is complete with a collection of field
plants, like the main corns, potatoes, beetroots, flax and others.
Beside them there are interesting groups of tinctorial (e.g. the Dyers
Greenweed, Common Pokeberry), spice (e.g. Black Cumin, Hyssop,
Caraway) and melliferous plants (e.g. Tansy Phacelia, Buckwheat), and
those used in medical practice or connected with folk custom (e.g.
Lovage, Common Wormwood, Hop). Plants that are frequently employed as
artistic motifs, including irises, nasturtiums, acanthi, violets and
roses, are also displayed here.
