The arts are not as terrible as they're painted, and artists are also human beings.That's what has dawned on me after an hour at Ruska 46. This is a gallery and studio like no other. No anonymous objects are here on display, the objects which mean nothing to an ordinary man in the street. No one makes you unthinkingly gape at the works of art. These people want you to feel moved, compelled and inspired.
How to make friends through art
TYC ART presents the works of two sisters, Magdalena Tyc-Witwicka and Małgorzata Tyc-Klekot. Visitors to the gallery may engage with glass, wooden and metal objects ranging from toys to collector's items. The venue features one of Małgorzata Tyc-Klekot's best-known projects, namely "Chocki-klocki", a series of wooden animal figures composed of smaller building blocks. It also presents Magdalena Tyc-Witwicka's glass sculptures, beautiful glass objects (glasses, bowls and platters) and original metal souvenirs from Wroclaw.
However, this is not merely about getting in to watch and buy something. -"We are are a rare breed of artists who still wish to engage with other people," says Małgorzata Tyc-Klekot. - "Interaction with the audience is our priority, and we want to share energy we put into our works," she adds. -"We also want to raise awareness and teach people how to appreciate the arts. To help them identify things they like or things they find moving and inspiring, and to find out more about themselves in the process.
Artistic action in the gate
Visitors to TYC ART Gallery and Studio will learn more about a variety of visual techniques, engage in the artistic creation process to become artists and creators themselves. "There will be tools and materials available. We will also be there, of course," say the artists. "Each meeting in the series will show what art really is and what the artistic creation process is all about. So long as people don't experience it, they won't be able to appreciate art," they add."We want to draw people to art and help them discover and develop their creative potential. For some, art may turn into their passion and will change their lives for the better," they add. The gallery is already open for you to visit, have a look and make new friends. The artists are also planning to organise various performances and events."We want to make the most of the location. We have a project, for example, to use our large shop window, which we call "teatrarium", to show pantomime études which we are going to combine with visual arts.
Gallery's sofa – come and sit to talk
"If you are slightly afraid of art galleries and you feel strange or even silly in such settings, this place will break the bad spell. All visitors are welcomed with a smile. People who have a sneak peek through the window are invited with a friendly gesture, and once inside, they simply must take a seat in the gallery's sofa, which is there to relax or have your photo taken.
The sofa is there to break the ice and a conversation with the hosts makes you feel at home at the gallery.
The enterprise has been organised with support and cooperation from Wroclaw's Municipal Office represented by the Wroclawska Rewitalizacja company. The project is carried out as part of the ECC 216 programme and aims at the regeneration of the yard at Ruska 46 abc.
