This year's celebs at Wroclaw Airport [PHOTOS]

Linkin Park, Senator John McCain, President Bronisław Komorowski, Chancellor Angela Merkel, Robert Lewandowski, James Arthur, and Steven Spielberg. These people have not dined with Queen Elizabeth II, they have landed at Wroclaw Airport. VIPs and celebs are visiting Wroclaw more often, and the airport staff knows how to provide such people with a truly magnificent and royal service.

This year has been extremely successful for Wroclaw Airport. The airport staff are expecting to serve a 2-millionth passenger this weekend. The crowds handled by Wroclaw Airport include both VIPs and celebrities, and even though the airport representatives are reluctant to provide any particular names (they explain that they are required to be discreet while serving VIPs), we have managed to draw a list of big names that have landed in Wroclaw in 2014.

Spielberg's luxury Boeing

No good memory is required, since a luxury plane with Steven Spielberg's film crew landed at Wroclaw Airport in November. They came here to shoot Spielberg's new spy thriller film St James Place. It is quite likely that Tom Hanks, who stars in the film, also boarded the vehicle. "The state-of-the-art Boeing 737-7BC BBJ landed at the dead of night. This luxury jet has a capacity of no more than several dozen seats," says Marcin Szpak, an amateur photographer and a member of Spotter.pl and Wroclaw Spotters associations. The amateurs of aviation could not miss such an opportunity and they came to record Spielberg's plane with their cameras (the director himself failed to prove equally spectacular). "They landed in Wroclaw at the beginning of June. They came with a literally flying visit, since they left for another city immediately after the gig," says Adam Burak, Marketing and PR Director at the Wroclaw Stadium, where the concert was held. Both their arrival and departure were shrouded in mystery. James Arthur, who also gave a concert at the Wroclaw Stadium, spent a little more time in the city. His fans were waiting at the new terminal to have his posters signed and photos taken. James Blunt and the legendary Alphaville also came to Wroclaw as part of the same gig.

It should also be noted that Gregory Porter arrived in Wroclaw to attend the Jazz on the Oder Festival. This American jazz singer and Grammy Award winner landed in Wroclaw in April. He won the hearts on the audience both with his singing and his unusual and imaginative headgear, a leather ushanka. Queen in turn visited the VIP lounge at Wroclaw Airport two years ago. Not so long ago, the lounge was also used as a setting to shoot Piotr Adamczyk's new film Framed.

World of politics

Government planes are also often seen at Wroclaw Airport. Although their timetables are strictly classified, and political leaders usually travel with their bodyguards, we know that the airport have played host to such eminent figures as Chancellor Angela Merkel, who landed in Wroclaw to attend a meeting with Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz in Krzyżowa near Świdnica. (The Polish Goverment Embraer170, Photograph: Wojtek Broda, facebook.com/WroclawSpotters) President Bronisław Komorowski also visited the airport. He came on a visit in an Embraer170, a plane hired from LOT and painted in Poland's national colours. Political VIPs also come to Wroclaw to attend the Wroclaw Global Forum. This year's edition attracted local VIPs such as Radosław Sikorski and Elżbieta Bieńskowska. Foreign guests sound far more impressive, however, as they include Senator John McCain and the US President Advisor, Professor Zbigniew Brzeziński. Speaking of the US President, Barack Obama, it must be mentioned that the Wroclaw Airport passengers enjoyed a visit from Obama's substitute. His double, who came to Wroclaw to attend the American Film Festival, did not fly in Air Force One, but in a Lufthansa airliner, won the hearts of both the local residents and the tourists, who often greeted him or had photos taken. Louis Ortiz bid farewell to Wroclaw by saying that he really had to hurry up as he promised Michelle (Obama's wife) to return for dinner. As for big political names from the past, it must be noted that Wroclaw Airport hosted Gerhard Schroeder and Jacques Chirac.

Lewandowski and other athletes

The Wroclaw Airport personnel also served world-class athletes. Borussia Dortmund landed in the city in August. (Borussia Dortmund players at the Wroclaw Airport runway. Wroclaw also played host to Poland's national team and their leader Robert Lewandowski. The footballers first used the new terminal two years ago during EURO 2012, and they returned a month ago to play a friendly against Switzerland.

VIP zone not for VIPs only

Wroclaw Airport is prepared to serve all type of passengers, including VIPs. VIP services are designed for all passengers regardless of the flight, be it a business, charter or low-cost flight. A variety of offers that start from 50 EUR secure a number of services for passengers, such as access to the car park next to the terminal, personalised service and priority safety control. As part of the all-inclusive package, the airport can also provide a limo (Jaguar XJ) or the Executive Lounge where passengers can enjoy their time before the flight with a glass of champagne.
