Search and rescue dog from Wroclaw found missing woman

The search for the 38-year-old resident of the village of Rzeszówek (Złotoryja district, Świerzawa commune). A rescue dog from the Specialist Rescue Unit in Wroclaw found the missing lady.

The missing lady left her home around 1 pm. As she failed to return for a long time, the family began the search on their own, which nonetheless was to no avail. They reported the case to the police in the evening. The police in Złotoryja referred the case to Wroclaw's Specialist Search and Rescue Unit, which specialises in seeking missing persons with search and rescue dogs. Two patrols entered into action. Eleven fire fighters using a quad and 5 rescue dogs searched the area. They were joined by 14 fire fighters from JRG Złotoryja, OSP Świerzawa and OSP Rzeszówek and 11 police officers from Złotoryja. "As we reached the area and collected all the necessary information, we divided the area into smaller sections to be searched by individual units using search and rescue dogs and a quad. The missing lady was found after 90 minutes by Tolek the dog, his guide Magda and their navigator Stanisław," reports Łukasz Telus, Head of OSP JRS in Wroclaw.Luckily, the missing lady was in good health. The quad carried the rescue team with emergency equipment to the site. The lady was provided with mental support and thermal insulation using an emergency blanket. The was transferred to her home, where she was taken care of by paramedics. Following medical examination, the paramedics decided that the missing lady can stay home with her family.

OSP JRS in Wroclaw is Poland's largest search and rescue unit using dogs specialised to find missing persons. The unit has 42 fire fighters and 30 search and rescue dogs. The unit encompasses 12 teams certified by the National Fire Service to search for missing persons in natural terrain and 8 teams certified to search for persons in the rubble. In 2016, the unit performed 25 search and rescue actions in the regions of Lubusz and Lower Silesia. Last night's action was the first one to be performed successfully by a rescue dog. The fire fighters are now seeking sponsors to subsidise a modern rescue vehicle, which will be used to carry the rescue team and serve as a command and control centres during rescue actions.
