"San Sebastian March" played at pl. Nowy Targ

On April 30, at noon, 980 students and teachers from Wroclaw primary and secondary schools will play "San Sebastian March" and the song "Wroclove" on percussion instruments. This will be the 1st Wroclaw Tamborrada, an event referring to the Basque festival. The meeting will last at least an hour.

"To the scene that will be located on the Nowy Targ square, we have invited the Senza Rigore chamber choir of the Wroclaw Music Academy, the Duke George II Piast Symphonic Orchestra, the KrzyKaśki ensemble from Kierunek Przygoda Foundation and the Boy's Choir of the National Music Forum. In addition, we will set four platforms, on which young musicians from Wroclaw Youth Culture Centres and the Community Cultural Centre in Długołęka will play. They will drum the rhythm on two-hundred litre barrels of oil" says Dorota Feliks, director of the Wroclaw Centre for Social Development.

Participants of the event, gathered in pl. Nowy Targ will receive T-shirts in four colours: yellow, red, blue and white. The colours will refer to the flags of Wroclaw and San Sebastian.

"This initiative, organized in the framework of the European Capital of Culture, shows that residents can make cool projects from the bottom up. This allows the students to become very involved in the project. What is more, strengthened will be the cooperation between San Sebastian and Wroclaw, which in 2016 will carry the name of the European Capital of Culture" says Jacek Owczarek, the co-founder of the Wroclaw Tamborrada project. From October 2014 to March this year, training sessions were held, attended by 102 teachers. Later on, they practised in schools with their students, to perform the March of San Sebastian, and the song "Wroclove". They were also preparing the instruments that will sound during the 1st Tamborrada Wroclaw. However, this is only the beginning of the preparation, as on 20 January 2016, 3000 are to perform in Orbita Hall.

"We still have a lot of work to do. We welcome all schools in Wroclaw and the agglomeration. Each of them can still join the project and perform in the Orbita Hall in January" Dorota Feliks adds.

Meanwhile, by April 24 the young participants may submit photos of the preparations for the Wroclaw Tamborrada. Prizes will be awarded for the three best photos - digital cameras, and a 500 PLN voucher. Photos submitted in the competition will be exhibited in Nowe Horyzonty Cinema at the end of this year. They will be available for all residents of Wroclaw.
