Railway connection Wroclaw – Dresden restored

From 13 December, a new timetable enters into force, with restored direct railway connection between Wroclaw and Dresden. The latest trains by Pesa will be now made available in Lower Silesia.

Trains from Dresden will leave from Wroclaw three times a day and will be launched in a slightly modified form than that which was in force prior to cancelling the connection. The existing connection Regioekspres will be replaced with Regio connections. On the Polish side, trains will be launched in the tariff Regio (cheaper than the Regioekspres) and will stop at more stations. These connections will therefore act not only as international, but also regional. 'Such an integrated solution saves approximately 3 million zlotys per year, which allows the connections to be included in a Voivodship subsidy programme,' said Cezary Przybylski, Marshall of Lower Silesia. For people traveling to/from Dresden, the Lower Silesia Railways prepared a special tariff offer. Trains to Dresden will leave Wroclaw at: 6:06, 14:30 and 18:08, the return from Dresden is scheduled at: 10:04, 15:42 and 22:03.

A new timetable

It's not end large changes in rail traffic in the region of Lower Silesia. New timetable will come into effect on 13 December 2015. The changes will also apply to passengers using the connections through Zgorzelec to/from Jelenia Góra, Węgliniec, Żary and Zielona Góra. The trains will be directed to the station Görlitz, where a connection was scheduled with trains to/from Dresden, Zittau or Cottbus. A new addition will be also direct connections from Wroclaw to Nysa (in the evenings, on Fridays and Sundays), Kudowa-Zdrój, (morning on weekends and mid-day every day) and Krotoszyna (morning on weekends).

Trips to Rawicz and Jelenia Góra will surely also improve. The local infrastructure was completely renovated, the number of connections was increased, and passengers can expect new trains.

<h2 >Modern trains on tracks

The line to the Jelenia Góra will operate modern, air-conditioned trains ETA 36EC "Impuls" and EN57AL of the Lower Silesia Railways.

The journey time of the fastest trains from Wroclaw to Wałbrzych will be 1 hour 7 minutes, and to Jelenia Góra, 2 hours 10 minutes. The modernised ETA EN57AL of the Lower Silesia Railways will operate as trains from Wrocław to Zielona Góra (all connections) and to Międzylesie (2 pairs of trains).

The standard of passenger will improve also in some of the non-electrified railway lines. The new stock (Pesa LINK) will be dedicated to operate connections from Wroclaw to Trzebnica, Dzierżoniów and Kudowa-Zdrój. Now, the new vehicles are tested and drivers undergo training. The trains will be available from mid-December.

The minister decides about the connection to Berlin

The fate of the previously cancelled connection from Wroclaw to Berlin is yet undetermined. Voivodship authorities are seeking to restore connections to Berlin, but the final decision can be taken only by the Minister for Transport. This is a connection particularly important for the city, not only in the context of the events associated with the European Culture Capital in 2016.
