Pendolino from Wroclaw to Warsaw

From December, we will travel faster by train from Wroclaw to Warsaw. Now this journey takes us almost 5 hours, but from December it will last only 3 hours and 40 minutes.

We will travel by Pendolino train to Warsaw via Opole and Częstochowa. The journey will take us 3 hrs 40 min. Now the fastest train to Warsaw travels via Poznań and the journey lasts exactly 4 hrs 58 min.

”Renovation works in many sections are coming to an end, which will help to develop higher speeds,” explains Zuzanna Szopowska, spokesman for PKP Intercity.

In the Central Rail Line, Pendolino will develop a speed of up to 200 km/h. Unfortunately, in the Wroclaw-Warsaw route, we will travel at this speed only along a 80 km section; elsewhere, the average speed of Pendolino will be around 160 km/h.

Regional trains will wait for Pendolino

The detailed EIC Premium train timetable and the number of trains is yet to be determined. According to unofficial information, the Wroclaw-Warsaw route will be served by five pairs of Pendolino trains, three Intercity express trains and six TLK trains.

”We want to include Pendolino trains in the timetable at regular intervals for the whole day, not only in the morning or in the evening,” explains Zuzanna Szopowska.

It is worth mentioning that these trains will be adjusted to times of departure of regional trains so that passengers of Pendolino could quickly transfer to a train to Wałbrzych, Kłodzko or Jelenia Góra.

Pendolino for 49 PLN

Now we will pay around 130 PLN for a journey by express train to Warsaw. Prices of Pendolino tickets will start from 49 PLN and will not be fixed. There will be a principle: the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it will be. Tickets can be more expensive for morning trains and cheaper for those travelling around noon. Discounts will also depend on the occupancy of the train – the more passengers, the more expensive they will be.

”Because of frequent renovation works, our passengers chose other means of transport. Now that trains will travel faster, we want to attract them back,” explains the spokesperson for Intercity.

It is important to remember that all seats in Pendolino will have to be booked in advance, which means that we will not get to the train without a ticket. It will not possible to buy them from a train attendant. The spokesperson for PKP Intercity explains that this is due to safety reasons. At a speed of 200 km/h, it is difficult to imagine standing passengers or a train attendant giving change for a ticket.

The new timetable will include Pendolino trains:

- Warszawa Centralna - Gdańsk Główny, time of travel: 2 hrs 58 min. (currently 4 hrs 34 min.)

- Warszawa Centralna - Kraków Główny, time of travel: 2 hrs 28 min. (currently 3 hrs 7 min.)

- Warszawa Centralna - Katowice Główne, time of travel: 2 hrs 34 min. (currently 3 hrs 3 min.)

Pendolino is an Express InterCity Premium (EIC Premium) category train. In Class 2 cars there are 345 seats not divided into compartments, and in Class 1 cars there are 45 seats, including the business part.
