A pair of this beautiful and proud species is on display in an aviary next to the bison pen;) There is a huge chance you will be able to see them in courtship because the northern hawk-owl is not a nocturnal species and remains active throughout the day.
The northern hawk-owl can be found in the northern Eurasian taiga zone (from Norway to Kamchatka and Sakhalin) and the wooded tundra in North America, mainly in Canada. This sedentary bird sometimes migrates a little to the South, especially if its usual hunting grounds are devoid of prey.
Interestingly, it is the female only that hatches the eggs, while the caring male brings the necessary food to the nest.
