November concerts in Wroclaw

You don’t want to get lost in the plethora of events or miss an interesting concert? Read our short subjective guide to music attractions of November.

Jazz and world music

If you are a fan of jazz, smooth jazz or world music, you will be satisfied with the November concert offer. At the beginning of the month, Wroclaw will be visited by the band of Robert Glasper (3rd of November, Stary Klasztor [The Old Monastery]) - an artist known to fans of jazz, hip hop and R&B, and then the Polish-Ukrainian band Dagadana combining jazz, folk and electronic sounds will play for us (12th of November, Stary Klasztor). Two days later, we will have an opportunity to see Pink Freud - one of the most original Polish jazz bands, which is still in excellent form, and the famous Czech psychedelic band Plastic People Of The Universe (14th of October, Stary Klasztor). The month will be closed by concerts of Freddy Cole - a brother of famous Nat ‘King>>'<< Cole, who has successfully pursued his own musical path for years (27th of November, Impart) and Noa - ‘a star from Israel endowed with an angelic voice>>'<<, whose hit ‘I don>>'<>'<< is familiar even to those who do not know her name (30th of November, Synagoga Pod Białym Bocianem [Synagogue Under the White Stork]). What we would also like to recommend, is a concert of Meshell Ndegeocello - one of the most outstanding female bassists in the world will play in the Music Zone of Radio RAM in the Eter club on the 9th of November. Rock and pop In November, we will have an opportunity to see a number of domestic stars in large halls. On the National Independence Day (11th of November), Perfect and Ira will play the wROCK For Freedom concert in the Centennial Hall. Almost two weeks later, Kombii will perform in the same place (24th of November). The fact that the band will give a ticketed concert may be a certain risk for Grzegorz Skawiński and Waldemar Tkaczyk after years of playing mainly outdoor and invitation-only events, but we can assume that fans are ready to pay for tickets. Three days later (27th of November), also in the Centennial Hall, there will be a concert of other Polish rock veterans - Budka Suflera. This will be an interesting event, because the band announces the end of its existence, so musicians will surely want to retire in style. Does the community of Budka Suflera>>'<>'<< will play in the Orbita Hall on the 27th of November. There are reasons to expect an incredible show. Punk In November, fans of punk rock will have an opportunity to see some legendary bands from this genre, including one foreign star. Dezerter will visit Wroclaw to promote its new album ‘Większy zjada mniejszego>>'<< [‘The Bigger One Eats The Smalec One>>'<<] (6th of November, Alibi), but they will certainly play their best known songs, too. One day later (7th of November, CK Agora), there will be an event that none of Wroclaw punk rock fans cannot miss. First, Tomasz Nuzban, the author of the documentary ‘Za to, że żyjemy, czyli punk z Wrocka>>'<< [‘For Being Alive - Punk Rock from Wroclaw>>'<<], will show his work to the audience for the first time, and later Lech Janerka and two bands: Zwłoki and Akustyczne Wrzenie will perform. And this is not the end of attractions. After two days – an ideal time to have some rest – the legendary punk rock band GBH will arrive in Wroclaw for one concert (9th of November, Stary Klasztor). Finally, it is worth announcing a gig of another legendary punk rock band from Poland – Proletaryat (14th of November, Od Zmierzchu Do Świtu). Although Oley and his bandmates may never regain the status that they had in their heydays at the beginning of the 1990s, they are still highly esteemed by fans.

Metal

Metal fans have at least four opportunities to go out in November. The first one is a concert of an icon of death and grind metal: Napalm Death (7th of November, Alibi). Everybody knows and accepts them – at least for their debut album ‘Scum’ – so everybody should go and see them live. There is no doubt about that. Another big event will be a concert of Insomnium and Fleshgod Apocalypse (13th of November, Firlej). Those who love catchy death metal will be treated particularly well in November, as they will also have an occasion to see a concert of Dark Tranquillity - a Swedish band considered to be a forerunner of this genre alongside In Flames and At The Gates (20th of November, Alibi). And the end of the month will bring a true sensation: a concert of Anvil (22nd of November, Liverpool). If you haven’t heard about this band yet, you should watch a documentary film ‘Anvil. The Story Of Anvil’. Everybody who saw this film has become a lifetime fan of this band, even if they prefer sung poetry.

The land of gentleness, solo artists and festivals

Being an unfashionable genre, sung poetry is sometimes ridiculed by being called ‘the land of gentleness’. But those who do not care about fashions or are not ashamed of their own sensitivity should attend a concert of U Studni -a new project of members of Stare Dobre Małżeństwo (24th of November, Stary Klasztor). And all of those who consider such music to be disgraceful, sentimental and trite are invited to see a concert of Tomasz Wachnowski – an excellent yet underestimated artist – with a guest appearance of Elżbieta Adamiak (30th of November, Anima).

We also sincerely recommend November concerts of Julia Marcell, who is promoting her new album ‘Sentiments’ (13th of November, Eter), and Mela Koteluk, who has become known not only due to songs from her debut album ‘Spadochron’ (23rd of November, Eter). Apart from that, you can’t miss a concert of Artur Rojek, who topped the charts with his debut solo album, thus proving that he can cope excellently without his former bandmates from Myslovitz (26th of November, Impart).

And what about festivals? There will actually be one festival, but a really good one! The 13th Wroclaw Industrial Festival will be held from the 6th till the 9th of November, and its stars will include Lustmord /USA/, Borhesia /Slovenia/ (both bands will perform in the Gothic Hall on the 8th of November) and The Legendary Pink Dots – a band perfectly familiar to Wroclaw concertgoers (7th of November, Gothic Hall).
