So far, they have been in service mainly in the Czech Republic and Germany, single trains are also in operation in Lubuskie and Western Pomerania regions. Diesel Link trains are now expected to enter the tracks in Lower Silesia. Our southern neighbours call them "sharks", but we prefer to call them "badgers". They are modern, perfectly equipped and will be a great boost to the existing KD rolling stock on non-electrified routes.
"They are not assigned to any particular route, they will be serving all non-electrified routes with large traffic volumes, including daily services from Wroclaw to Trzebnica or from Wroclaw via Trzebnica to Dzierżoniów," explains Justyna Stachniewicz from Koleje Dolnośląskie.
PESA is expecting to earn 46 million PLN for the supply of four two-segment trains. The investment, which is aimed at improving passenger experience, has been subsidised by the EU.
New trains are suitable for disabled passengers, offer about 150 seats and can reach the speed of 160 km/h. They are expected to enter the tracks by the end of the year. Within the same timeline, Koleje Dolnośląskie are also planning to purchase five electric-powered Impuls trains to serve the route to Rawicz.
