Masters of heavy metal macabre: Cannibal Corpse at Alibi

Cannibal Corpse have been active for over twenty-five years now. This American death metal band have release quite a few albums and are now considered classics of the genre. They perform live on Friday at Alibi in ul Grunwaldzka 67. The event kicks off at 7 pm.

Jim Carrey in love with Cannibals

Established in December 1988, Cannibal Corpse comes from Buffalo, NY. Singer Chris Barnes, bassist Alex Webster, drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz and guitarists Jack Owen and Bob Rusay decided to join forces (they had been playing in three different bands until then) and explore metal sounds in their heaviest and most extreme form. While their first demo was recorded in March the following year, their début album Eaten Back To Life was released in 1990. The latter and the next three LPs (Butchered At Birth (1991), Tomb Of The Mutilated (1992) and The Bleeding (1994)) have catapulted Cannibal Corpse into worldwide death metal stardom. The band would shock not only with brutal music but also with their penchant for macabre lyrics, which were inspired by B-class horror films and abounded in monstrosities, blasphemies, perversions, diseases and accidents of various kinds. Their gory artworks only added to this terrifying image. It is easy get scared, but you could also follow the band's suggestion and discover a tongue-in-cheek approach both in their music and their lyrics. Just like Jim Carrey, who arranged for Cannibal Corpse to appear in his box office hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Consistent like no other

Cannibal Corpse raise much less controversy than they used to, and they have been performing with a different singer for more than twenty years now (Chris Barnes was replaced by George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher). However, the artists have never laid down their arms, and as they release a new LP every few years, they are consistent like no other in tending to their extreme field of musical activity. Their latest album called A Skeletal Domain (released last year) has been warmly received both by the fans and the critics. Both compositions and production have garnered praise, but the only thing that people would take issue with is the album's cover, which, as the reviewers say, is not gruesome enough. Despite its unappealing artwork, the album is really great. Just like the band's shape. Cannibal Corpse have never let their fans down live, and the gig at Alibi is simply bound to be fantastic, just like their previous show three years from now. Two Swedish groups: Overviolence and Gadget, are confirmed as support. The main attraction of the evening enters the stage at 8.50 pm.
