Low-floor buses constitute 100% of Wroclaw’s fleet

The last high-floor buses have disappeared from the street of Wroclaw today. This means that all bus services provided by the Municipal Transport Company (MPK) in Wroclaw and its subcontractors are adapted to passengers with special needs.

This will make travel easier not only for the disabled, but also for the elderly or minders with babies in prams. From today, when choosing to travel by municipal bus lines, they will not have to check whether the departure time in the timetable is marked with “N”, because all bus services are already provided by low-floor buses (“N”).

The last high-floor buses that disappeared from Wroclaw streets are 14 pcs of Volvo B10M vehicles. The Michalczewski company, one of MPK’s subcontractors, has just commenced the service of the last of the eighteen lines that had been systematically taken over since June. From Saturday, the subcontractor’s buses serve passengers on lines no. 112, 113, 612, 128 and 409 (the last two only on holidays and weekends).

As you may remember, the acquisition of all planned lines by the contractor concludes the stage of replacement of 126 buses that was carried out by MPK within less than two years. First the company leased 57 non-underfloor and air-conditioned Solaris buses, and then it concluded a contract with the subcontractor for the service of selected lines, under which new MAN and Solaris Urbino Alpino vehicles had to be provided.

On that occasion, MPK invites all fans of public transport to bid farewell to the first Volvo bus that was brought to Wroclaw from the manufacturer in 1996 (fleet number 8008). It will be driven by drivers who collected the bus from the factory and drove it for many years. They welcomed it in MPK’s fleet and now they will say goodbye to it after 19 years of use and 1,100,000 travelled kilometres. The farewell to the Volvo bus will take place on 20th November (Friday). The details will be published on our Facebook page and our website: www.pasazer.mpk.wroc.pl.
