Monika Kompaníkovà, the author of "Piąta łódź", is going to meet her readers on 13th October at the Mediatheque. The protagonists in her story, Lucia and Jarka, live on the outskirts of the city. A twelve-year-old, Jarka often stays home alone and wanders in the neighbourhood. She would like to call Lucie "mum", but Lucie is not really happy about this. One day Jarka escapes her family home: she carries a pram with two six-month-old twins and eight-year-old Kristian, who is also on the runj. They are trying to set up a family in an abandoned summer house. With her unique knack for story-telling, Kompaníkovà creates an amazing atmosphere. The book is considered a pioneering Slovak novel. Many critics have acclaimed the book as a rare example of socially-minded fiction.
Andrea Tompa is going to meet her readers on 18th October at Barbara to discuss her "The Hangman's House". This extremely relevant quasi-autobiographical novel in fact brings a series of short stories that depict the life of a Hungarian Jewish girl growing up in Romanian Transylvania under the Ceaușescu regime.
