14 November 2016: ERC Day in Wrocław

Why are research grants of the European Research Council (ERC) so important? And why do we obtain them so rarely? How to efficiently apply for them?

The participants of the meeting “ERC Day in Wrocław” will aim at finding the answers for the above questions. The meeting will take place on 14 November 2016 in Wrocław and is organised by the Academia Europaea Wrocław Knowledge Hub and the European Research Council in cooperation with the Regional Representation of the European Commission.

The ERC grants belong to the most prestigious grants.  They are intended for research which deepens the knowledge about the world and its aim is to support innovative research projects which will lead to disruptive  discoveries and conclusions. Only three Poles managed to obtain them this year.

Why is it so difficult to obtain a grant and how to improve the effectiveness of application for grants? Among the participants of discussion about these issues there will be: prof. Jerzy Duszyński (the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences), prof. Eva Kondorosi (the European Research Council), prof. Michał Karoński (the Chair of the Council of the National Science Centre), prof. Jerzy Langer (the Polish Academy of Sciences) and prof. Karol Życzkowski (the Jagiellonian University).

Moreover, ERC Day will be an occasion to become acquainted with current and planned competitions within ERC programmes, and with regulations and procedures of assessment of applications. For this purpose, dr Agnes Kulcsar, Call Coordinator ERC, will come to Wrocław.

The meeting’s additional value will be the presence of Dr Alban Kellerbauer from the Heidelberg University, who obtained the ERC grant. He will discuss his experiences and development of his scientific career due to the ERC grant.

ERC Day will take place in Dom Europy on Monday, 14 November 2016 at  9:00. Admission free. You are cordially welcome to come!
