ECC: film Ida visits the seniors

Agata Trzebuchowska, the leading actress in Paweł Pawlikowski's Oscar-awarded film"Ida" takes part in the preparation of yet another performance of the cycle "Voice of the Excluded". On Sunday, she met with residents of the Nursing Home, who will perform in the show.

"Midsummer Night's Dream: The Fairy Queen" is yet another Wroclaw performance from opera director Michał Znaniecki, set as a part of the "Voice of the Excluded" cycle. The project is endorsed by Jutropera Foundation, which collaborates with the Office of the European Capital of Culture 2016.

"Its intention is to actively engage and draw into the cultural life, in this case creating performances, people who come from the so-called excluded environments," says Krzysztof Maj, CEO of ECC 2016.

The first performance "In Search for Lear: Verdi" featured the residents of the Nursing Home in Pilczyce. The second, "Generation P: Prokofiew" - young people from the Education Centre. "Preparations for the "Midsummer Night's Dream" was to feature the representatives of national minorities, but the seniors and young people demanded that they were taken into consideration. They did not want their share of the performances to be a one-time gig" says Krzysztof May.

And that is why the "Dream" features seniors, and teenagers, and the representatives of national minorities.

The performance will be presented in the summer, and later in 2016 it will feature in the programme of the European Capital of Culture.

Love is cool

Several charges gathered in the common room of the Nursing Home at ul. Mączna on Sunday, but all in all, the performance will feature dozens of people who are not regular actors. "Shakespeare's play is the axis of a performance, in which we want to tell love stories of the residents of the Nursing Home", Michał Znaniecki explains his idea. "True or imagined, the love stories of the residents will be collected by Agata Trzebuchowska, who engaged in this project immediately, and wholeheartedly. I realize that this is not an easy task, because the lives of these people were not easy. But she is a sensitive girl, I believe she will be able to bring these people out of themselves, persuade them to confide.

"This is the first time I have been in a such a situation. Theatre has always been important to me, but what I'm interested most is people. I hope we will manage to talk" said Agata Trzebuchowska. The young actress, a student in fact, was a bit embarrassed. First, she asked all participants to introduce themselves, and then she and the caretakers tried to persuade residents to talk about their loves. Mature residents smiled shyly, and no one wanted to start. "Love is cool. Would anyone disagree? " asked the plucky Mr. Andrzej.

Michał Znaniecki: "I realise it is hard talk about love in a group, as it is related to personal, intimate feelings. Agata will meet with you face to face. I believe that she will be able to entice you into sharing the touching stories you would never share with me.

Premiere performances of the "Midsummer Night's Dream: The Fairy Queen" are scheduled for July 2015.
