ECC 2016: artists in residence

Artists in Wroclaw are offered residence in Košice, Slovakia, while their colleagues from selected European cities will be able to create their new works in Wroclaw. All this is made possible by A-i-R Wro Artistic Residency Programme. Artists applying for residency in Košice and Wroclaw must submit their applications by 14 and 29 February, respectively.

Residency in Košice

Why Košice, Slovakia, in the first place? Because the city served as the European Capital of Culture back in 2013 and, as you can see, still continues to pursue the projects that were initiated at the time. These include the Košice Artist in Residence programme, which was designed for artists of various media and various countries (in and outside of Europe). The artists will be offered to live and work for two months (April and May 2016) in Košice. They will also receive a special grant of 1400 EUR, travel reimbursement, and once the period stipulated in their contracts comes to and end, their works will be on public display in one of the galleries. Slovakia is particularly keen to invite artists who specialise in new media or performance art and pursue site-specific projects or engage with the public space as well as those who create light and sound installations. The idea behind it is to foster a dialogue between artists representing various cultures and to lend a new lease of life to the culture of Košice . For more details, please go to the ECC 2016 web page.

Artists can submit their applications in English at [email protected] from 4 January to 14 February 2016 with a note "Applications for residency in Košice".

Residency in Wroclaw

Four artists will be selected to participate in the programme, and their residency is planned for two months (June/July, August/September, October/November). They will be offered a special grant of 1400 EUR, travel reimbursement (up to 300 EUR) and accommodation in Wroclaw. Applications will be accepted from the artists representing the following European cities: Breda (Netherlands), Department de la Vienne (France), Dresden (Germany), Grodno (Belarus), Hradec Kralove (Czech Republic), Kaunas (Lithuania), Lille (France), Lviv (Ukraine) and Wiesbaden (Germany). The organisers of the European Capital of Culture 2016 find it vital that the artists in residence both work and engage with the local community. They would like to encourage the artists to explore the local urban fabric, gather new experiences and exchanged their thoughts and inspirations. For more details, please go to the ECC 2016 web page. Applications are accepted by 29 February.
